Lynplatinum I know what you mean I have two son-in-laws and two DDs and if I needed anything doing I could ask,but being a bit of an independant old gal I like to try to do it myself if at all possible.
My gardener/handy man is great as he can do the bits I can't, climb/drill/saw etc if needed and I pay him anyway to do my garden.Last time he came bless him he fixed another bolt at the bottom of my back gate ,far too low for me to bend in half to do and he had a little bit of time left before he went anyway.
My son-in-laws are my 'last resort' as they both work long hours and don't get a lot of free time ,but I know I could ask if needed.
Yesterday DD and my DGS and I wandered off to Westgate for an hour or so. DD bless her bought lunch and then as it had got a bit windy we went to Whitstable where the boys and DD were on the beach crabbing and I went for a wander /walk and got a few good lungfuls of briny ,very invigorating, and best of all free:):)
.Tiny food shop on Saturday but well within my budget and just a top up for veggies.Came home last night with left over cooked veg and I have a quarter of a big steak and kidney pie to eat with it for dinner tonight.I'll dig that out from the freezer shortly.Lunch will be some HM soup that I made on Saturday with bendy passed-its-best veg, and I have some nice left over blue cheese to use up with some crackers as well.So menu sorted for today and no shopping to buy
Weatherwise its looking a bit grey looking and rain is on its way as my infallible joints are telling me so:):)once they start to creak I know wet weather isn't far away.I must get my morning mile done asap before it gets too wet.
Have a good day chums what ever you are doing

agnesjnr, food for thought, indeed a cautionary tale.I now regret not socialising for 15 years when I was bringing up my children.I have very few people I call friends and no one who I could call in an emergency.
In a tentative connection I have spent money.I bought 3 jars of coffee with the fancy decoration promotion. They give me pleasure and cheaper than a night out! Vx:0 -
Hello all
I have just got back from the most amazing holiday - it cost £1500 for three of us but that was all inclusive in a 5 star resort in Mallorca - flights, transfers, accomodation, all food and drink and all entertainment including an amazing kids club that gave us 3 hours a day to sunbathe in peace!
We have returned to the most miserable Manchester weather and we're desperate to go back - but unfortunately we are about to start the school holidays only misery, so we are fully on the good ship NBI to save to go back next year - looking like costing us about £3000!
I also need to do a major declutter in my house so hopefully that will inspire me not to spend as I do not want to bring any more STUFF in!
Off to Aldi at lunchtime for the Super Six as it's really good this week and ends on Wednesday. I know that's actually Buying It but it should mean I don't need much more for the rest of the week.
Good luck all.My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |
Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.0 -
Five months in and I still have not bought any Emma Bridgewater stuff - thats pretty good for me. :T
What I now need to do is slowly go through what I have and start getting it listed on fleabay! I probably will do this around September time with the view of things that I have and no longer use, to be sold off. There is stuff rammed to the edges of the dresser cupboards (underneath) that are just literally out of sight and never seen, let alone ever used. It is dead money sat in there.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

NBI going well here at the moment, mainly helped by the fact it's OH birthday today and we've not done cards for about a decade and the only thing he say's he want's is a home made cake, with butter cream, so that has been made and I'm also doing him his favourate tea of pie and chips.
Otherwise it's just been a case of potting on[9 courgette's, 29 pac choi, 26 tomatoes, and 24 strawberry] and re-setting seeds that have not germinated, mainly due to OH drowning 'em.£71.93/ £180.000 -
Hello everyone
I've took a short excursion from the good ship NBI and had a bit of a mini spending spree!
I've had to replace a few items of clothing due to losing 4 stone since beginning of last year. Last year I managed to scrape through with most of my clothes as they were a bit tight to start with, this year the jumpers were hanging off me through the winter and I have no decent summer work tops.
So I've spent about £100 on some essentials, including 3 new bra's, even had to replace canvas shoes as I'd managed to stretch them last year with my fat feet :rotfl:
But now I'm back on Board ship and its payday on Friday. As far as I can see the only thing I need to spend money on is a meal out next Friday and fruit & veg during the month...my cupboards & freezer are very well stocked.0 -
Evening all
Still hanging in here, food spends are down, mainly due to trying to empty freezer by Saturday so it can be defrosted. I am going to take some stuff to CS after work so as to free up more space and I am trying to sort out stamp collection have a large bag to donate.
Had my first trip to Maidstone since Jan last Saturday.0 -
Ahoy there all
The above quote is from Betty Davis (I believe) and it sure is true!! I try not to grumble but with my young friend here yanking stuff off walls and unscrewing stuff without pain - it made me aware of just how much the arthritis has enfeebled me. I still fight the beggar tho!! I walk everyday - and still do my own gardening and will repaint kitchen when it is finished. It aint gonna defeat me yet!
pm2326 I am really impressed with your weight loss. I keep trying and failing miserably. Can you point me in the direction that made you successful, please? I need to loose between 2-3 stone. Lots of folk go on about the 5:2 diet - need to find info about it!
Vulpix sometimes we need to do somat to brighten our day. Good for you - I am sure they will be useful!
Have been pottering quietly today - putting stuff in new/old/recycled kitchen cupboard and tidying up after the turning out and things coming off walls etc. then went for hours walk to the bank and the 99p shop and back via the park - so beautiful with the trees waving in the wind and the sunshine and the happy sound of kiddies playing on the swings etc. Funny old day in that while it was raining this morning I snuggled up under a blanket while the rain pelted down the window and drank coffee and read my book and I thought - 'ooh I am so lucky to be able to snuggle down here and not have to go out.' and then in the afternoon got the other sort of free pleasure of the sunshine and the trees!! All for free and makes me realise that this semi retirement of mine was an excellent idea - but i can only do it thanks to Martin :money:, and the good folk on here and MM&M's support and inspiration!!
NBI today - need new vessels for my cutlery - now space has changed I have no room for the traditional flat tray - so thought I would copy the restaurants that have cutlery in upright 'tubs'. thought about buying something when I remembered that I had 3 cleanish, white pots that had been bought to put hyacinths in one year from I!kea - they are ceramic so I found em in the shed, washed and disinfected them and they will now be used for this purpose! Result!! :rotfl:
Busy day tomorrow so am off to bed now. Sail on money saving seas folks! Nite!Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
NSDs 2015:185/330 (allowing for hols etc)
LBM: started Jan 2012 - still learning!

to be honest, I did it through willpower and the support of the OS weight loss thread on here. They are really supportive on there.
I think I reached a point where I knew I had to do something, I was squeezing myself into a pair of size 20 work trousers, refusing to buy the next size up, my back was aching, I couldn't sleep comfortably anymore and I constantly felt tired and tearful.
Weird thing is I cut out all junk food at work and that habit's never changed, they all think it's weird that they can put out a buffet, sweets, cakes on the filing cabinet in front of me and I'm not bothered in the slightest. But if I have biscuits or chocolate (don't buy cakes or crisps etc) in the house, it tortures me to the point I end up eating it all in one go
Maybe I should include chocolate & biscuits for the house in my NBI plan and see if it works ???
I still need to lose another 2 stone, but I can't get into a routine at the minute but fingers crossed, the weights stayed off so far this year.0 -
Long time no post
We are lucky here. We have fantastic neighbours. Only the 8 houses we all look out for each other. We have a new house being built on the corner, but we know the family building it alreadyEveryone chats to each other, we lend tools and share skills, but we don't live in each other's pockets either. After the impersonal ism of London living, it was a real culture shock, but now I couldn't live anywhere else
Getting older sure is painful. I'm in agony these past two weeks. Arthritis in the neck and elbows flared up big time. Even sitting is a pain. But I'm still soldering on. Even covering someone else shifts in work as she's turned her ankle. I just get one of the bar staff to come lift the heavy full pans. It's been very busy in work thankfully, lots of communions and christenings and now the confirmations start. Keeps us afloat till the holiday season startsBut I do have to admit I'm knackered most nights
Hubby,s job is going well as well. He's really enjoying it. Just a 20 min drive away, he's home just after 4 and can spend the evenings pottering around the garden After getting hit by a hard frost two weeks ago and fearing all was lost, the spuds have pulled through and the root veg have finally made an appearance. Can now tell the difference between a seeding and a weed so will have to start the weeding this week. Really looking forward to getting some crops this year as it's our first serious attempt. We have had to cheat with the courgettes, bought two plants, and the basil was bought. Otherwise everything else is from seed. The seedlings that never germinated fell foul to over watering. Mother will keep sneaking in and watering. There's no telling her, she's knows bestcausing a bit of friction to say the least but what can one do?
I too have my money boxes. All loose change goes in them. The grand kids have theirs ( all coins under 20p) and the rest is saved to pay the insurances on the cars. Never covers it all but it helps big time
I can't say I've not been spending cos I have. But in my defence it's all for the home and garden. We built a pond and patio area, so we have had the expense of fish and plants and filters etc. however we refurbished late MILs garden bench and are now using that and we have found some old pots which were heading for the dump and salvaged those and split more mature plants from around the garden to plant around the pond. It's still a project in the making but it's coming along nicely. Oh and we had to make a fence and gate to keep the dog from the veggie patch, which we done using old pallet boards. Not the prettiest of things but functional
And whilst hubby still fritters money, he is getting so much better at seeing how he's being " conned" in the supermarkets. He's now checking price per 100gr rather then packet price and choosing more carefully. Only taken me 25 years to convince him lol
So day off today ( first in a week ), got the oven to clean( coated it in oven pride last night) then some baking for colleagues and a half leg of lamb to butcher. I want some steaks of it for tea tonight and then the rest is going to be a curry. Also going to attempt to make yoghurt and soda farls. Also got a heap of washing to get done. And I've a film I want to watch. So a busy day for me, starting with taking the dog out now
Take care all xx0
