I dropped two binbags of stuff at a local charity shop yesterday. Need new sandals for the summer. Picked up a Footglove pair for £3'50 look New as well.
Haven't spent today apart from drink and cone of chips for my F2f when we went to the library earlier.
Spent the afternoon sitting in the sun reading so free and so nice to feel the sun on my face.I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
Thank you Suki1964.
Thankfully I count my blessings everyday and I'm a happy person.
Its just sometimes life doesn't pan out the way you thought it may do. I'd always had visions of being settled with a man (not necessarily married or living together), but just to have someone there. Maybe its the big birthday that's made me think about that because apart from not having a partner everything in my life is great.
Any how I'm lucky to have great friends and family and I'm still moneysaving which in turn I'm using the savings to get out and about and get more confidence to do so.
Today I've had a cleaning day, decluttered and tidied up so tomorrow I can go out and about. Back to work soon so I'm making the most of the spare time (maybe too much time to procrastinate lol).0 -
Evening all
Just back from Sandwich
Had a mooch round some of their shops and I didn't buy a thing , not even in the CS. It was quite pretty though took my camera and took some great pics so I may use them in a painting later. It was cold though.
Had a walk round and came to a decision. I would like to retire early. I have a pension which I can claim at 60, It won't be much but lets see where life takes me in the next few years as I'm very much up for it.
Ps walked past a front garden with chooks scratching in it.0 -

I used to live just outside SandwichIt is pretty.
As for retiring at 60, I did, after agonising for ages about whether we would manage ok if I took the plunge. Well, we manage just fine - OH is an early retiree too, and we each have a small pension from work. As long as you don't expect retirement to be one long round of cruises and holidays you will be fine0 -
Imdoingitforme, we all need to be comfortable in our own company. Don't rush into anything else till you are ready.
Welcome all newbies. This is a very friendly thread. It's what made me finally post after years of lurking.
I had some girlfriends round this afternoon and we had a great few hours catching up. (My turn to host) I had bought a small cake to share but I was a little concerned it wasn't enough so I baked lemon shortbread. No big deal I hear you cry BUT, I NEVER bake. I can cook but only ever do savoury! I only had flour in the house because I bought it recently to make my own Yorkshires instead of frozen. (I know, I know don't push me overboard. ) friends were impressed and we finished a plateful.
So my new mission is to do more baking instead of buying from supermarkets. I will let you know how it goes.
HH xWe WILL stick to a budget for all of 2015 without loosing momentum. :j0 -
Looks like lawn mower will be staying for now, didn't get to collect new one this afternoon.
By lunchtime I felt awful, in last 3 hours I've developed a cold and heads banging, so I've had a bath got pj's on and will be in bed by 8 at this rate.
Least I now know why I felt so tired this week and needed to take Friday as a holiday0 -
Get well soon pm. So the mower will wait till you decide what's right for you. But as others have said if you don't love the old one and it makes the job a chore, maybe it's time to change. We WILL stick to a budget for all of 2015 without loosing momentum. :j0

Hello all,
just my second post on this thread but finzlly caugh up on all of your posts.
I cant begin to thank you all for your useful posts, you have all contributed to my more mindful spending, iv managed to ignore the urge to buy or mooch around the shops. I dont know exactly how much I have saved but I certainly have more left in the bank than I do usually. Its also helped me be ok with not having the 'right' food item in the house. Normally when missing something id pop out at kunchtime and pick it up but iv been holding off and doing without. It was hard at first, i would actually worry about it but now I have a certain calmness, like 'oh well', its never been a disaster to not have spring onions or creme fraiche etc. Its made me more inventive too
pm2326 Is it maybe worth asking at work if anyone wants to swap with you? Someone might like a newer mower in return for a slightly older one but one which you are happy with?Simplify and then Simplify some more!0 -
Good evening one and all,
I haven't posted on here for ages, but have been reading every day. Apart from the past week, during which I have spent a lot due to various birthdays / occasions etc, I have been really sticking to NBI and feel a hundred times better for it. It seems like my whole view on spending has changed and whilst I have never been a huge spender, I now spend even less due to being more mindful with my money.
I must once again extend thanks to our Captain Slowdown for starting this fantastic thread. NBI has meant that since January we have:- overpaid enough on our mortgage to bring us into the 75% LTV deals, thus reducing our interest rate from 3.99 to 2.34 - that is all thanks to this thread. So the effects of NBI are pretty huge for the ATB household when you take into account the interest saved;
- spent faaar less time at the supermarket than we used to. Instead I use that time to potter at home and just gently "be" without rushing

Evening everyone
A rainy and dark day here today. Spent the morning doing nothing but being lazy and in the afternoon visited a 92 year old friend of my grandparents who was kind enough to answer me loads of questions about the town we live in and about people from the past. I learned loads and was once more astonished how much he still remembers. But the whole thing lead to many more questions so I will have to have similar talks to some other elderly people round here.
I run our small local museum so always get asked questions about the past which I often can't answer, so I have to reley on getting information from other people.
welcome to Hoipolloi and any other newcomers I might have overseen. The more the merrier, isn't it?
I can assure you that after a while of NBI it is getting easier. I started some sort of NBI back in 2013 when I was sick of all the mispurchases, twice worn garnments and the 57. nailpolish I never used. At the beginning I was always in the shops, desperate to find something that I could buy. Now there are times when I don't buy anything besides groceries for weeks. There are also times where I buy loads (like at the moment, with books) but most of the things I buy are now things I also want to have and not just buy because of buying...
all who missed the eclipse; it wasn't that impressive as I thought it was anyway... We almost missed it at first because we expected it to get much darker and then it basically wasn't living up to expectations imo.
I'm doing it for myself; happy birthday!
I'm the same when it comes to online dating, often I just think "Well, he is nice, but I'm not in the mood to meet him." I guess that means that single life has some advantages ;-)
pm, hope you'll feel better soon!
atypicalblonde; congratulations! So saving money lead to saving even more with the lower intrest rate.!
Well, my lesson learned so far from the clothes hanger challenge is that I need things for summer...! I wear most dresses and lighter blouses in winter too, with a cardigan over it. Plus have some jumpers. So now that the jumpers will get out of service it is looking a bit scarce in my wardrobe. So if I don't want to walk around in dresses all summer (I wear dresses most of the time, but there are days when jeans are just far more practical) I will need to make some clever purchases.
The actual plan for tonight was a DVD and knitting, but so far all I've did was surfing around the internet, blogging, internet communities, browsing through a book and such a kind... So might now take my knitting needles out but no DVD or I will never go to bed... So will just listen to my very strange playlist I created this morning; some 80ies things from Squeeze, Tami Lynn and Marshall Hain combined with Gracie Fields and Annette Mills. Yes, I know, I have a strange music taste...
