Katkin fabulous job on the chair and stool.I also like to renovate and recycle old bits of furniture.I have a bathroom stool/box that I resouced from a skip at a boot sale .I took it home spent several days rubbing it down and undercoating and t/coating it .The hinged lid revealed a square space underneath for storing cleaning bits and pieces and the top I recovered with a square of cork.Looks pretty good and cost me only time, and paint (which I had in the cupboard anyway.)I have in my conservarory at the moment a set of shelves that I am doing for one of my grandsons in bright red and white thick stripes (Liverpool supporter ) so he can put all his beloved programmes and football books on in his bedroom.
When thats done (its on hold at the moment as the weather is too cold to work out there ) I have a coat rack thats a beige colour that I want to paints scarlet to brighten it up a bit .It will go at the bottom of my stairs as I have white walls in my hall and stairs so it will stand out even more .

I have a smashing chair in my kitchen that was 50p from a boot sale and was restored with a new cushion and a pot of paint. All of my famaily get my odds and ends of things if they want, then a small bedside table decoupaged then clear varnished with a cut to fit glass top (I have a glass shop near to me that will cut to fit glass for me for a couple of quid.)Its a nice cheap hobby that almost anyone can have a go at.

Well 2nd February and NSD today I have enough stuff to feed an army at the moment so I am staying indoors.Tomorrow my sis-in-law is coming to lunch so I may make a lasagne later as I know its her favourite and there is sure to be left overs for Wednesday.Bubble and squeaks were made and I have two in the freezer and two for lunch today with a poached egg on top.
Have a good day everyone its dry but chilly here in north Kent I am so hoping that the snow has passed us by
    Cheers JackieO xxx

    Morning everyone

I've not been on the thread much but have been careful with the spending. I'm trying to cut back even further this month so fingers crossed.

One thing I do need to get is some tea towels as mine saw better days a couple of years back. They're a disgrace quite frankly and the shame has forced my hand. I will relegate them to cleaning/floor cloths. There is a market stall in the local town which sells them at a reasonable price so I'm off to get some this morning.

How did this happen one day I'm young with life ahead of me not knowing what's going to happen and then before I knew it I'm talking about tea towels.

    Have a good day.

    Lovely chairs,design classics,well done.

I have been given a sewing machine too. When my current 2 ongoing projects are finished I fancy making napkins too.I used to sew masses but somehow it fell by the wayside.I have recently been thinking about a baby dress I made at school in fabric with a tiny blue rosebud pattern. And I smocked it!!!!!!!!!!! I have no idea what I did with it.I had no use for it as a 14 year old.I did make a nightdress at school and am still sewing 2" square pieces of it into my vintage quilt.

We have seen a deal for a hotel in Scarborough which just the 2 of us might do at Easter time.

    First library session today.

Have a lovely day shipmates Vx

  • I was just wondering if anyone uses m/s money? That programme was a lifesaver for me as I was always able to plan ahead re forthcoming bills and I could see exactly what was going out and where and when I had to stop spending dead, on anything. It was an old m/s programme and I had to re-buy it once but got it on ebay, they still sell it on there. It needs an older computer but I only ever used an old computer for that and only that, it was so so important to me. I don`t use it now as we have no dreadful bills these days and no mortgage that has to be paid come what may

Raisins are soaked in rum and I have dried apples soaking in water, ready to cook soon. Arborio rice and milk cooking to make rice pudding, so a nice desert ahead for a couple of days. Am still eating out of the freezer and cupboards and can see me doing that for many weeks ahead

Teeth nashing time coming up as I have a bit of a feeling that I won`t have enough wool for my jumper, worked in a circle up from the bottom. I am cutting the length shorter and can change to short sleeves but will still be touch and go, oh why did I do an aran type pattern! So many hours

I cut my own hair this morning for the first time. I'm really pleased with how it has turned out and it has saved me about £25 at the hairdressers.

katkin, the chair is absolutely beautiful - the stool too, actually. And I agree that cutting clothes up and re-using them in the house for different things is a really positive way to use things up and stretch things further.

Candygirl, thinking of you and your dog - as rosiepup said, its always a worry.

  • candygirl - i hope you get the news you want from the vets. x

I was looking at etsy earlier and there was something I really wanted to get, but I managed to stay strong and instead I'm going to try to make something similar myself! Now I just need to troll the charity shops for some dominoes/scrabble tiles...

Rent was paid yesterday, but no other spending

However after watching Martins programme on Friday I am determined to make over payments on the mortgage!

I saw that too.:) I used to overpay my mortgage but then we switched to saving as our rate is so low but that made me want to overpay again when/ if we move house and get a new mortgage. It can get quite addictive especially when reading about the people on MSE that do that.:D

  • Well I've worked out I have saved an extra £150 this month through being mindful of spending, and it was a long month and i haven't felt like I've missed out on anything!!
Went to Mr A for the weekly shop but didn't realise how cold it was. I know now though. Just back from a walk, only out 40 minutes but I can't feel my legs!!! Will need to wear something warmer than jeans tomorrow!!
Stay warm everyone, do we have a boiler room on board? If so I'm off to warm up!
