NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday

The assistant in Boots apologised to me today when I handed her back the £5 off voucher on own brand cosmetics saying I didn't need it.
I'd gone in for specific things for the first aid kits and no cosmetics are on my list for this year! I don't think she'd ever had anyone refuse a voucher before.

NSD for me today ( and yesterday as a matter of fact). Just made lovely apple, mincemeat and almond crumble from a few leftover bits and still had a small carton of custard from christmas so that will make a nice Pud for a couple of nights. Posted off amazon trade in books Thursday lunchtime and had an email that value had been credited by teatime yesterday - very impressed. No £5 yet but I have another trade in to post next week so should have made about £40 in a couple of weeks and declutterers 5 books. Impotant yo note that £5 bonus can only be claimed once per customer. Also just found this

On Amazon for nothing! I can't crotchet really, but would like to learn whilst I am not fit enough to trip the light fantastic! I have a hook and some wool so that's Saturday evening sorted. Honest, I am only 39!!
Have good evenings all

Consumerism is.....buying things you don't need with money you don't have to impress people you don't know and probably wouldn't like even if you did know them.0 -
I went into Asda today to stock up on cat food, which is currently £3 per box compared to £3.95 usually. I grabbed a trolley, went straight to the pet food aisle, put the boxes in my trolley and nothing else.
Then went into TK Maxx, picked up a nice bag, considered whether I actually needed another bag, knew the answer was a big, fat NO! And put it back. Looked at a nice jacket, took it off the rail, considered trying it on and thought, that would be a bad move! Put it back on the rail and walked out.
No wandering off into the aisles in Asda and coming out with a trolley full of stuff that I had no intention of buying when I went in! Ditto TK Maxx!
Major achievement for me :-)Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and adventure.Oliver Sachs 20150 -
Apart from some groceries - mostly YS pork mince made into homemade burgers and frozen ready for work day breakfasts, coleslaw veggies, sweet potatoes for homemade potato and broccoli cakes / fishcakes and frozen fruit for smoothies plus some other essentials - £32 - I have only bought a blister stick for an upcoming trip for £4.99.
I finally caught up on the thread and also had a horrible time in a previous job where I was constantly shouted at and belittled and all of us were under pressure and the atmosphere was just horrible. Luckily last year I got a new job and work for a great company with lovely colleagues and have never been happier working 3 days a week.
I've been spending my spare time working on craft projects and reading, which has been lovely. Tomorrow I'm going to the cinema (£6) and then I'm getting my hair cut next weekend (£25) but other than that I have no other plans to spend money this month"I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better." After a lie in due to the roads around me being totally iced up, I went to see my brother and family. My SIL went to work so my brother suggested we go to costa. Arh money I thought but said yes, then he paid. I didn't refuse, he rightly pointed out I fed and watered them on boxing day. So yummy hot chocolate, tiffin and half my nephew's muffin! Then came home and pottered around. Now I'm at work for the night. So a NSD for me today. Tomorrow I'm going to blitz the house and my waitrose order is coming so I will be organised for the week ahead.Mum to 2 DSs, dog mum, wife full-time worker.

One small thing but I'm trying out own brand bisto. I thought there was no brands left in my basket except lurpack and marmite but then realised I still do use bisto. I have no idea if it will be any good but for 25p instead of £2 I shall investigate" Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Yesterday was a good day :-)
My husband made a wonderful log store with removable lid and slide up hatch out of free pallets and wood we had already. He will paint it with preservative we have already, not our favourite colour but it's round the side of the house. Log store is being made today if there is enough time after chopping some wood (we presently have no logs just lots of huge pieces!)
I tidied and organised the kids rooms and just about finished ours too!
I listed a few things on our villages newly created swap site:
I have agreed to swap some jeans we don't need for some felt in someone's shed - hoping this will cover the coal store roof.
I'm swapping a spare USB/plug adapter for a toasting fork I've wanted for ages.
I'm swapping a wine rack we don't need for a couple of homemade birthdays cards and giving away some wellies to someone who needs them.
I've managed to get the mending done, fixed a hole in my dressing gown, three tiny holes in my pj bottoms, a huge hole in daughters comforter and a hole in the side of a snowsuit. My son then came in with his work jeans (he is 5!) that he wears outside when helping hubby, both knees had huge holes. A quick rummage later and I found some cath kidston cowboys and Indian material so I've patched those up too!
Lunch was using up the leftovers and no one was really hungry for tea so a good day food wise.
Woke up this morning and had two other people offering felt (yey!) and after no luck asking for a gym ball on the swap page I asked on my Facebook page as I was going to buy one new today (to help with ligament pain now my bump is big and to use as a birthing ball). Someone I know has offered me one for free :-) saving me approx £10. I shall buy her some flowers to say thankyou.
Let's see what today has in store :-)
IWAB x2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.
Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(0 -
A stormy time at the butchers in a monetary sense yesterday. Bought steaks for DS1s departure meal. I didn't have one but the boys in the family said it was lovely. Chip shop chips to go with and all was sorted. Bit pricey but worth it.
Off to the gym soon, then later to the airport to say goodbye to my baby:(
I'd like a no spends day but we need petrol to get there, I suspect a cuppa at the airport and possibly something to eat for DS as he has to be there 2 hours before etc etc. all fairly necessary spends.
Hope you all enjoy your Sunday. May peaceful waters and sweet sunshine accompany your day.
Kind regards

And today's question for the gardening gurus is: asparagus? I love it, and sometimes think about planting some, but I've never quite got round to it. As far as I can make out March is the time to plant the crowns, but all hints and tips (and suggestions of where to get the crowns) gratefully received.
.
Take care with planting asparagus, everytime I get it to harvesting stage (5-7 years) I sell up and move   :rotfl::rotfl:Aiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget
