And now I'm reading about Amazon trade-in ... I've always ignored it when I've seen it, so I've not read up on it properly. Strikes me it would be a really good way to sell several things really quickly, not have to package them all up individually. As my health is on the rocks at the moment, but I need the space (and the income) this is a great solution - as someone said, a bit like music magpie. Thank you all! What a thread this is turning out to be ...

Hi Slowdown I was going to ask your age but you penultimate remark gave me an idea.

I am sure your OH meant you should retire.

I am not at retirement age actually. Perhaps I just sound old!! I'm 49 this year. However, there are days when I feel old I can tell you that! What my husband, who is over 6 years older than me, meant was we could manage with me out of work if we had to. We would have to cut back on our lifestyle of course but he earns enough to keep us both. The problem would be my own sense of guilt if I didn't work, not because I wouldn't be contributing to the pot but because OH has a very demanding job and I would find it hard to put an even greater responsibility on him. I love him to bits but he is finding his job very stressful and tiring. He has a great sense of professionalism, is highly regarded by his colleagues and has a great sense of responsibility to those he works with. He earns well and we could survive I have no doubt, but it is the treats that keep him going. If I stopped work he would miss them greatly and make his already difficult task even harder.

However, I have done plenty of thinking today and chatting with friends, one of whom is a counsellor. They had many wise words for me and together with a yoga session based on breathing techniques, I am feeling much better thank you all.

I also saw the news on Tesco stores today. Obviously HMS NoBuy is sending ripples to the shores of consumer island already:rotfl:

I rather helped out the waitrose shareholders today by overspending. But as the workers are the owners i tried to look at it as helping to pay the wages of the very nice lady who showed me to the gravy granule aisle.

I hope everyone had a low consumption day, in terms of calories, money spending or energy! Take your pick!

    Kind regards
    Slowdown :)
  • Spent a grand total of £23.03 on the weekly shopping today, that includes washing powder and toilet rolls.
    Very happy with that :)

Slowdow ref Tesco I feel sorry for the thousands that are going to lose their jobs :(
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

OMG Mr Boof sends out e-receipts when you buy so I can monitor what is spent. OH usually goes there with MIL on market day for breakfast and free coffee, then to grab the coffee we love before they go on to the market. This means that the times I can't go with them (at sewing class) OH is free to buy whatever he fancies without regard to lists of meals/ingredients.

He can't cope when I talk about mealplans as food is his heaven and hell. If he is having a bad day he will eat anything and panics if I limit what food is in (ie I'm saving that for tomorrow's meal). We do have to be careful in some ways as he is t2 diabetic, but it means I can't do more than a rudimentary plan that's subject to change at any time. With the Mr B receipt I can at least track and identify areas we could gently adjust with discussion.

    Yay, one more positive step.

I'm not complaining, I'm supporting the process of continuous improvement. :p

Stepping off the property ladder for now, may climb back on later.

Just a flying visit this evening before I head off to my meditation taster, but someone on another board recommended this blog and this particular entry struck a chord. I will certainly try the breathing one.

Iam the same age as you Slowdown - 49 (isn’t it exciting!) I read you pay for yoga classes, I did too for 10+ years then moved and found the new place's yoga teacher a bit competitive, it was all slim jims and who could go the furthest, most cleverest . I missed my older lady but she was too far to travel too - but boy did she teach me and very slowly I picked up and remembered her wisdom and have started my own practise at home and meditation. Sometimes I need refreshers or troubleshooting that I can source from the internet.

I use this site mostly but have a few dvds
    http://www.yogajournal.com/category/poses/

I'm learning in my own style and needs from my practise - I'm flourishing and spend 10-30mins every day joyfully practising. More than I ever did in a weekly class.

I will admit that meditation is best learnt and at first practised with a teacher, but one the basic skills are with you - you're off!

My life has changed by meditation and yoga. It costs me nothing (though I have a nifty sticky mat lol - you need the mat to stop slipping in certain poses)/

Don't know why I posted that, just felt I needed to share
  • Another stowaway (aka lurker) appearing from the hold... I was starting to feel guilty about reading and being inspired but not contributing...
And ironically I think I need to be on this ship because I'll hopefully soon have some money coming in. A small field my ex husband and I own is almost sold (this has been going on for a long time, so fingers crossed!) and the money from that will pay off my overdraft and most of my cc debt. And I'm worried that I'll then relax, buy "treats" and end up in the same hole.
I'm self-employed (mainly writing and translating) so my income varies wildly from month to month. This means that I really do need to build up a good cushion (which I did have at one time) and not fritter money away.
And I've no idea how often I'll contribute (never been part of anything like this before) - you might never hear from me again or I might bore you to death. But something about the attitude of people on here appealed to me...
