Islandmaid when I am on the island in August if I see someone wobbling down Sun Hill where we are staying in Cowes looking decidely cheerful I will no doubt recognise you
:):)
Let us know how you get on with your wine making.
My late Ma-in-law who lived in Wyatts Lane, Northwood, made the most wicked sloe gin from sloes in her garden.
It was pretty powerful stuff about 110% proof I think you could have flown an aircraft with it:):).She would have loved this site, as my kids thought she was the old wife that all the tales were written about. She had a HM remedy for almost anything
Tomorrow is pension day so all the bills get sorted and paid and anything left over goes into the stash-cash with a little bit of Happy Cash for me. Not got any shopping to do though which is good .but History club starts back up again so will be splashing out a fiver for my Friday afternoon treat
Right I'm off to the galley to have a pork chop that I dipped in egg and dried stuffing mix This will go into the Remoska for dinner and in the steamer some mixed veg, carrots, brocolli and cauliflower this will be eaten with some mashed spuds.
I stewed the wrinkly apples and some of them will go into some plain yoghurt and mixed together for pudding the rest will go into the fridge as i may make a crumble tomorrow using some of the mincemeat mountain that I have got stashed away:):)
Have a great evening chums

Jackie - wouldn't be the first time I,d wobbled down Sun Hill
though nowadays its more of a weeble than wobble :rotfl:
My MIL (in her 80's) may have known your MIL as she,s always lived in 'that neck of the woods' - knowing the Island, we could be related :T
I have sloe gin stowed away made from Palance Road sloes, so not much changes
Love when you write about the Island, its lovely to see your 'home' through other,s eyesNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Evening:D Have accrued a couple of tiny SM spends for things we've run out of or the teenogre has tidied away for us:rotfl: I even dismissed the YS stuff as too expensive and only came out with what I went in for. Today I've menu planned from what we've already got here, what needs finishing up and hidden frozen treasures:) before I do a proper shop tomorrow. I've got a double points voucher so will replace some of the basics that have run low.
Borrowed one of the Hairy Bikers' slimming books from the library this week. Am going to try their idea of using tortilla wraps as pizza bases. Already use pitta breads but this might give a crisper result. That reminds me to dig out all those fakeaway recipes I've got copied out somewhere to have a crack at. Less non recyclable rubbish that way.
Nothing major to report. Have been busy doing lots of secretarial stuff for the morris side today sorting out this year's dance schedule. Good news is that two of my existing housesparkling clients have asked me to increase their hours as sadly one of my ladies died last month. Have put one advert out and will put another one up this weekend. Decluttering will resume at the weekend.

Evening all, shipmates, just sampling a bit of my Christmas grog ration, a present from a dear friend who knows what it's like to live in a small home and to dread the acquisition of Stuff, hence her gifts of consumable items.
I was listening to my colleagues chatting on breaks today and came to a realisation which shocked me slightly; just about every convo was based on consumerism; what they'd just bought, were about to buy shortly etc etc. Now, me and mine aren't in the higher echelons of the workforce, we're the front line, lowest tier. We have enough, but not money to excess, and yet everything was about the purchasing of Stuff (and it was material things, not a mixture of Experiences and Things).:(
I zipped my lip and thought about that. I'm not some spartan living on dried bread in a hovel. Heck, I dropped several hundred on a new washing machine this week (five sleeps til delivery!) but I'm so disinterested in general shopping, it really drives me potty to even think about it. I may have broken something internally or perhaps just adopted my dear Dad's attitude; you identify a need, you shop, you go home and don't darken a shop again until there is another need to be met.
Today I made a batch of fishcakes using a big can of pink salmon (£1.75 from FF) and h.g. spuds, 40p lemon and YS parsley, bound with one egg. It made 10 hearty fishcakes, two of which was a good meal. I have stashed 4 of the remaining in the freezer and 4 in the fridge. Very tasty and very economical and, best of all, I know what's in them.
I'm continuing to explore the culinary options existing in the fridge, the mini freezer and the storecupboards and in no imminent danger of hunger, which is to be truly blessed.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Referring back to discussions of portion controls a few pages back I've just found this which I've found helpful because of its visual appeal

SM shopping night tonight
Didn't really go in with too much of a plan in mind.
Prob still bought more food than I would have done if I'd had a plan but didn't go wild.
Also bought a shower curtain in the sale for £3. But we did need a new shower curtain!
Didn't go near the clothes or anything toiletries which is a plus for meNo more unnecessary toiletries Feb 2014 INS: 24 UU: 13. Mar 2014. INS: lost count, naughty step for me! UU: 80 -
Hello
May I join in please.
I have been trying to be good with money but looking at last years records and the charity bag of stuff waiting to go out I am not doing a very good job. I tend to have lots of idea than move on to the next but I need to stick this one.0 -
I did an experiment on Amazon Trade In - a hardback psychotherapy book I bought for US$36 almost 20 years ago, when it was on sale in this country for £36, they're offering a tradein price of £10.75, excellent for me! I'll definitely be doing that.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

I have a set of River cottage paperbacks that I've never read - I tried to give them to my SIL but she didn't want them. I looked up the ISBN on Amazon and they will give me £32 + the £5 bonus, so £37 total!!! I was seriously thinking of taking them to the charity shop.
The drop off point is literally across the street from our flat.
Thank you so much for posting about this NC6NH and all - you have made my day!!!:happylove0
