  • Lesson learnt!! I have already emailed the CEO's for Royal Mail and Post Office Ltd, they have promised to investigate fully. As to the envelopes the postmaster thought I ought to seal the envelope with parcel tape!! available from their counter!! I don't
think so if their tape is like the envelopes.

Seriously. You have Grandkids. Do you not think to seal an envelope with valuables?
I know you feel let down but by your age I wonder that you wouldn't do this.
Or even use the sender address label from the Signed for labels if they still do them.

It is 2014. It is pretty much common knowledge that Special Delivery is the correct service to use.

And, OP, have you reviewed your pensions and benefits? Most 71 year olds would regard that sum as a trivial amount to save up. If it awkward for you then do make sure you are receiving everything you are entitled to.

If the envelope wouldn't seal properly and could come unstuck the mailman should be vindicated... chance s are they slipped out on one of their sorting machines... in fact they could be lying anywhere! Your really should use tape to seal envelopes that contain anything valuable.
  • Yep being wise after the event.

You advised previously not to use registered delivery because postman saw it as something good to steal from.

Surely using tape to secure the contents is also a bad idea?

I don't know what world you live in but oap poverty is a serious issue and I don't believe most 71 year olds think it's a trivial amount....

Well registered delivery doesnt exist. So you are wrong there.
I would use tape on any envelope that contained an item that could come out.
You will also note I advised using the senders address label.
So there's 2 options. Of course I wouldn't use Recorded in the first place and had the OP used Special Delivery as advised. All this grief would have been avoided.
  • !) I would have used 'special delivery' but the postmaster knowing the contents advised a £50 limit compensation implying 'vouchers' were included. Clearly not.

    2) The same post office supplied envelopes that were not 'fit for purpose' - easily unsealed

    3) The envelope was 'opened' by someone employed by Royal Mail or Post Office Ltd removed the valuable items (vouchers) re sealed (2) envelope delivered with the low value items intact.

I cannot accept a machine malfunction or accident. It would need a very cleaver machine or 'accident' to re seal the envelope!!

Post Office Ltd are investigating. Royal Mail have not said a word!

    OP.

Unless there is something you have not told us, you really don't have any evidence of this. It's one of a number of possible scenarios.
