  • But these cards cannot be used. lost/stolen 'infers' they could be used at a later date or used before a stop was applied.

    No reply from MD yet.

Doesn't really answer the question, does it?

I could understand their stance if there was no way to cancel he card, or if they were the 'old style' paper vouchers which could be used by anybody... but if they have cancelled the gift card the only thing they have achieved is adding a guaranteed £80 to their bottom line. Their behaviour is quite frankly despicable.
  • I agree bazzyb, anyway I have referred them to BBC Watchdog, I hope they take it up.

You may have a bit of a wait for a reply, the MD will almost certainly pass it onto someone else to deal with the issue.
  • Hi all, good news -Toys-R-Us are replacing the vouchers. The email to the MD worked!!

I still have issues with Post Office Ltd and Royal Mail which are on-going.

It transpires that the envelope used (purchased from the post office) would not seal properly - after 24 hours the 'flap' could easily be opened and re sealed, you might say 'not fit for purpose'

Thank you for all the posts and any 'levers that may have been pulled'

I will let you know what happens with Post Office Ltd and Royal Mail.

    Mike.

I think if I was you, I'd send a comprehensive letter to the royal mail detailing why you are unhappy, hope for an apology and leave it at that.

If Toys-R-Us have done the right thing and ensured you are not out of pocket I wouldn't waste any more time chasing people. Sometimes in life its just not worth it, especially when details are blurry about who is at fault.

Well done on getting the vouchers sorted though, I didn't think they'd leave you without after being able to cancel them. Was it a nice response that you got?

A great outcome, well done! I feel this was the right outcome - whilst it clearly wasn't Toys R Us' fault that the gift cards went missing, they had the power to cancel the gift cards and so once they knew they definitely couldn't be used if found there should have been absolutely no question over replacing them.

I doubt you will ever find out what happened to the original card, as it was not sent using a tracked service there is no record of where the item will have been at any given point in time. As they hadn't been used, it seems unlikely that they were stolen from the item - but should this not be the case, the fact that you have logged it with them means they can identify patterns of anything similar going on and investigate if necessary. If somebody was stealing from items, it would almost certainly be from multiple items rather than just your 1 card.

I assume you won't be sending the replacement vouchers via Recorded Delivery! ;)

A letter to RM is pretty pointless as it's impossible to pinpoint when the vouchers were taken. It could have been at the post office from which they were sent so even before they were handed over to Royal mail.

It would be far better to write to the Post Office as it was their employee or agent that gave or implied the incorrect information regarding the compensation available and if was from the Post Office that the "unsealable" envelope was purchased.

Unless the person who stole them (assuming that they were in fact stolen and didn't simply fall out of the envelope if it became unsealed during its journey), intends to give them as a Christmas present to someone else or is selling them on ebay.

Yes hence why I said unlikely. I assume (perhaps incorrectly) that if there was a thief they wouldn't give them as Christmas gifts but would rather get rid of them by other means. Who knows.
