Maybe she did knock on your door and you were out -as you were when the parcel was originally delivered. RM will be doing an investigation into the missing parcel now- they probably will not know to look on their shelves (awaiting customer collection). Pop in tomorrow. I always find my local sorting office very helpful.

Thank you I will pop down in the morning. I just hope it is still there. Do you know how long they keep them for?

    Yes "Who knows"

Do you have any advice re getting my parcel, and RM leaving it in the bin? As previously stated I need to forget about the neighbour issue and get my parcel back!

Yes contact the person who sold it to you, as previously stated.

18 days then return to sender.

Not sure when your 18 days would start - as was a bit unusual...

Going forward i'd recommend opting out of the RM deliver to neighbour scheme which should ensure any undeliverable parcels are returned to the sorting office in future.

I've done it the only problem I get is despite having this sign all other companies will still leave items with neighbours. I know the sign is only for Royal Mail but I hoped others would read it but that doesn't work.

Because most companies use their delivered stats as a selling point for their business.
They have no interest in taking items back.

The thing is my flat is down some steps, you can't see the front door from the pavement so it's fairly secluded. Right next to my front door is a cupboard where the electricity meter etc is, it's large enough to walk in so plenty of room. There is the option of leaving parcels in there which would count as delivered, some do this but it seems the more popular option is find a neighbour to leave it with. I assume this is because they then have a signature or some sort of proof it's been left with someone.

Not really sure of your point?
They want it delivered. If they need a sig then its still delivered with a neighbour.
it will depend on the driver/company.

because they likely assumed you had a card and would pop round.

Surely that would only work if the person who took the parcel was the owner of the bin?

Granted its not clear whether it was their bin or wasn't.
