Tyres New Ones Twice Year or Pay for Storage

Next week I am planning on getting Winter Tyres fitted to My Vehicle as I will be driving in Europe in some pretty snowy weather.

Now I Got 2 options I can get the Cheapest Tyres possible and Replace them twice year and might be able to get some money back on them when from Garages when I change them over.

Or get Decent Tyres that may last 2/3Years (Cracks?) and Change them over that may last longer but have to pay for storage as I don't have anywhere where to store them.

In the long run another set of wheels would probably work out cheaper than changing the tyres twice a year, especially if you can find some cheap ones on eBay. And surely you can find some space to keep them?

Why will your 2/3 year old tyres have cracks?

I have some winter tyres for my caravan. The old tyres were getting on a bit so i replaced them complete with new wheels and use the old tyres when its stored during the winter. They must be about 12 years old now and the worst codition for a tyre sitting in one spot unused.

Still no sign of cracking. I wouldnt trust them on the road though.

In which case, you have little option than to replace your summer tyres. Can you live with all weather tyres or use snow chains?

What price do you put on your safety? Cheapest tyres are never an option for me.

When you say move around a lot what sort of move around.

What sort of mileage how often do you change tyres normaly?

How often are you traveling to Europe?
Do you use the same route each time?

Have you priced doing the storage swap in europe

    Where are you getting £50pm?
a quick search come up with one example much cheaper

Have you looked at shipping to/from a location parents/friend.

I'd second the option of getting a second set of wheels and storing them yourself.

The difference in cost between cheap tyres and the best isn't usually that much and personally it is not an area I'd be scrimping on. Don't assume the most expensive tyres are best either, look at results from objective tyre tests.

You really don't have anywhere to store a set of wheels? No friend with a garage or shed? No corner at work that you could talk the boss into letting you use?

Just buy one set of all-season tyres.

Easier said than done. There are VERY, very few all-season tyres available in the UK. Almost every tyre available here is a summer tyre, although winter tyres are way ahead of all-seasons.

if it for this vehicle I would not be puuting passengers at risk with cheap tyres.
