  • In bed watching Children in Need with DS. There was a big bang as my waters popped. He was a fortnight early and I've never watched Children in Need again!!!!

At the soft play centre with DD1. I took a toddling DS there 3 days before my due date, had a brilliant time chasing him around on all the play equipment, went home and realised that I was going to the toilet every 10 minutes and weeing antiseptic!!!! Went to hospital and nearly gave birth to DD1 in the corridor rather than the delivery suite. Full blown labour lasted all of 37 minutes!!!!

Taking DS and DD1 to school with DD2. Again a fortnight before my due date. We were walking and I suddenly began to feel very very wet. Realised what was happening, delivered the kids to school as quickly as I could and hopped on a passing bus to the maternity unit as it was quicker than hanging around and waiting for an ambulance to arrive and the maternity unit was on the bus route!!!!
loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!

I'm very odd. I don't seem to go into what they actually define as "yep, you're dilating, you're in labour, here have some drugs" at all really - I get pains, but not 100% regular like contractions... and then, to quote the midwife who delivered my second, "you really caught me out - you just seem to go bang" - literally not at all dilated to baby within 10 minutes (they didn't half mock the doctor in that one as well who'd told me the baby wasn't coming). Happened with both pregnancies - thankfully I've had the niggles and increasing pains both time as warnings and got myself to hospital to be checked out as not only do I seem primed to go bang - but I seem primed to try to go bang about the 33 week mark! The second time around they managed to hold it off and buy us some more time.

Hence no more kids as they'd want to keep me in for a long time just in case as the speed and prematurity of it means the premature baby delivered at the side of the road issue is a distinct possibility!
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
  • All four at hospital. Induced each time, with no signs of natural labour happening of it's own accord. It was always quite disappointing- I felt robbed of the excitement.

At home, 3 hours after the bells on New Year's Eve/Day.

Eventually went to hospital 7pm on New Year's Day, had a horrible time.

Daughter was born at 4pm on 2nd January.

DS1: at home in bed, about 10pm my waters broke suddenly. Contractions were very mild until about 6am the next morning, when labour really started. He was a home birth, born 2.15pm.

DS2: started having some contractions at midnight at home, they got much stronger the next morning and he was born at home 1.10pm, just 10 mins after my waters broke.

DS1: 5 weeks early. Had been to hospital as I was swelling and they thought it might be pre-eclampsia. Told me to come in at 1pm the next day for 24 hour monitoring and potential induction. Went home, insisted on hubby packing hospital bag and changing bedsheets. 9am I was watching TV and all of a sudden I felt a *snap*. All over the nice clean bedsheets. Had to buy a new mattress after that too... Contractions started at 10:30, 0cm dilated at 13:00, needed to push but was fobbed off by a midwife at 15:00, bubba born at 15:45, around 4 minutes after I was finally taken off the ward and into a delivery suite.

DD2 was induced at 38w1d due to me having gestational diabetes. Waters were broken at midday, contractions were full on immediately, baba in my arms by 17:30 :)
  • First child - waters broke at home and I spent several boring and uncomfortable hours in the hospital waiting for the birth.

So for the second child I decided to hang on at home as long as possible (the hospital was only 10 minutes away.) I had mild contractions from about lunchtime and in the middle of Fawlty Towers that evening I decided that things were getting serious. Hubby wanted to see the end of the show, but I convinced him it was not a good idea! The bumping around in the car and walking into the hospital must have been the final straw - I'd just got into a gown and the midwife was still putting on her gloves when baby popped out

First: contractions started at 1:30 am. Every 3 minutes. Rang hospital at 6:50 to ask if I had to go in as I didn't want to! Went in at 14:30 and had DD at 16:23.
Second: contractions started at around 8:30pm. Just put on "The man who sued God" and had contractions every 2-3 minutes from the get go. Went to bed but DD wouldn't sleep. Woke DH after a bath at 2:30 and he complained he wanted a lie in as it was the start of his Christmas holidays! Eventually had DS at 6:23 am. Was pushing for hours. He came out very bruised and very wrPped up in his cord. He then quickly became very purple. Luckily, we didn't know at any point how badly tangled he was. If we'd known how at risk he was, it would have meant an ambulance transfer to Bristol and an even more stressful labour.

At home for all three of them. I didn't have the dramatic water bursting thing, just a bit of a slow trickle as the head was engaged every time and this can act like a cork. And I got to the hospital in plenty of time for each of them. All very ordinary and not scary at all.
