Selling on Facebook

£460 since trying for the first time mid last week, £360 of it was junk I just had sat about too.

People seem happy to pay by bank transfer too, which is nice.

Anyone else doing any good with FB?

I joined a few groups and over all found it a complete waste of time.

Listed a phone in four different groups. Price was £230. Within ten minutes I had 6 offers ranging from £150 to £90. Obviously declined.

Then three people offered £200. I accepted first. Waited in for hours for them to collect only to get a 'sry 2 mess u abot' message. On to the next. Same thing. It's happened a total of four times now. The last telling me and I quote 'u shud av accepted cheper cos I fond 1 4 less'.

My favourite if when they make an offer. As above. Phone is listed for £230. Someone offers £150. I politely decline. The reply with '£150 and I'll collect within the hour'. As if that's somehow going to make me suddenly find an offer of less than half the asking acceptable.

Plus I can't deal with all the absolute idiots on there and those who are trying to sell cats and dogs. One women put up an album full of photos entitled 'everything needs gone'. With a picture of a table, some shoes, toys and.....a cat. As if it were some disposable throw away item. I was livid.

Needless to say I left all the groups after a few weeks.

Out of curiosity which groups do you use?

I've only tried the local ones.

It's a free method of selling, so you have nothing to lose aside from your time, but I can see it being a frustrating experience.

I've only tried the local ones.

    Car based ones

With the junk, I did look at ebay first and price things £50 less than the cheapest one - mission was to declutter and if nobody had shown an interest I would have skipped them.

With the better stuff I just priced it a bit lower given there are no CC fees or seller fees, and away it went.

I've done well with Gumtree of recent too, just listed random things to see what would happen, and I've had a good few calls, I assumed people just looked at ebay, but clearly not.

Why there's not another big auction website is beyond me.

  • I've done a lot of selling on Facebook lately, just bits & bobs whilst trying to de clutter the house.

Must say, I'm impressed. No fees & your stuff is usually gone within a day or 2 & no Post Office involved.

Yes, like everywhere you get your time wasters but no eBay, no post office. I much prefer it!
  • Found it ok for bits and pieces at bargain prices.

Tried advertising a few of my ebay items at near market value and the game changed.

Can you deliver for free? Silly offers, when can you deliver 30 miles away etc.

Since when is £150 less than half of £230?

agreed some of the things are stupid , one person for example has listed a 6pk of walkers crisps for 50p saying they bought the wrong ones and a lot of the listings are in a langauge i cannot understand

i av deez fings 4 sale n e fing u lyk hit me up wiv a PM

should be your most expensive asset...

  • I've sold a few household items on a Facebook selling page, one specifically set up for my area. It's been things like curtains, cushions etc where I've redecorated & don't want the hassle of posting etc.

I've always found it pretty good. I always price realistically & 99% of the time the people have come to collect. The only time I've ever delivered an item myself is when it was somebody I knew at my daughters school anyway, so we exchanged at the school run :rotfl:

I think just like any other online selling, sometimes it will be successful & other times nobody is interested. You either keep trying in the hope that eventually somebody will want what you're offering or just forget trying to get any money for the item & give it to charity/offer for free on the same FB page.
