The "Save 12k in 2015' Thread!

  • How do people keep track of how much they save/earn as extra income over a year? Any tips would be great.

I have a spreadsheet. On payday I total up how much more I have in my various accounts, after deducting household/car etc budget pots, and after adding on any interest.

I have over £6k "debt" on a M&S credit card but it is interest free for a year and gains me points - I've had £30 of vouchers already. I make sure that is deducted from my savings total and is tucked away in a 3% account and gaining interest.

I also make sure £1000 is nominally put into each of 3 "high" interest current bank accounts. It's not new money, just the same grand that gets shuffled round in a circle every month!

It sounds a hassle, but setting up DDs and a bit of initial organisation makes it painless. At the end of December I can total up how much more I have than that time last year! :)

    Hi.

Completely new to all this but could you put me down for £5,000?

If it wasn't for me getting married in 2015, I'd sign up for the whole £12,000!

    Thank you :)

    Edit: In response to Sugarplum634

I'm trying to track my spending by using YNAB (You Need A Budget). It's an amazing tool imo and really helps you track where you're spending the most money. I import all my bank statements into it so I know exactly how much money I've spent and have left over.

It's not free but with Christmas sales coming up soon on places like Steam, you can get it for cheap.

#158 from 2014 - who sadly didn't achieve my goal this year due to losing my job. Can I join again for 2015 and hope that work is kinder to me in the following year? Thankyou!
What do you want your target to be? :)
