Preparing for Winter V

Another five bags of garden cuttings waiting to be taken to the recycling depot. I've also restocked the cupboards, we now have plenty of laundry, cleaning and toiletry stuff.
I spent yesterday cooking for the freezer two chillies, two sausage casseroles are in the freezer, the lasagne needs assembling and I'll make a cheese and onion pie when I've bought more onions. I've still to make fishcakes and turkey burgers.
Another job to do this week is to sort out my clothes, time to put the last of my summer stuff away and bring out my jumpers.

Just been going through the check list at the beginning of the thread and ticking things off.
Could I suggest a couple of large bottles of water be added to stores in case of frozen pipes?
Apologies if already added further up threadNot dim.....just living in soft focus

I have stocked up on UHT this week, I'm trying to add a bit to each shop... need to remember part baked bread as we have no room in freezer. Horses moved to the winter field this week and are now stabled so need to be organised for week nights. Lots of frozen meals ready to be zapped.0

Thought of something tonight.
I needed fuel, my "normal" filling up consists of running the diesel down to when the red light just appears, then on the way home from work I pass the cheapest garage-where I always get fuel (it's 20 miles from home so I wouldn't go there unless I was at work)
I fill the car right up-the tank lasts for ages then.
I've decided after filling up tonight that I will not let the tank go under half all winter-just in case!
This was what my dad did all the time, he would be horrified to know I allow the light to come on!!:j0 -
Why not put some into a petrol can, from the cheapest garage of course?:hello:  please play nicely children !0

If I keep the car half full or more I won't need to!
If roads were so hazardous that a fuel tanker could not get to the garage -I'm hoping I wouldn't be expected to travel to work either!
Or if I was stuck in a snow drift on the 20 mile (rural) journey home I would have the half a tank or more to keep me warm/try and get home/ or get to someones house I know/or park up safely and get lift in 4x4 home!:j0 -
I'm finding it hard to prepare for winter when it's still not that cold XD
On the plus side, new hiking boots were seriously tested in the rain recently and proved to be far more waterproof than the boots they replaced, so at least I'll have drier feet!0 -

It is howling up here tonight. Thankfully, all the leaves are well and truly off the trees now. I went out and had the leaf blower/sucker on them this afternoon and had pretty much the last of them up so hopefully there will not be too much left to do in the garden now.
Anyway, on tonights regional news weather report we are forecast to get the first of snow showers towards the end of this week. Its been very mild - and would be way warmer if it was not for the stormy weather! Forecast to be 17 degrees tomorrow!
Hoping for it to stay fairly mild for the rest of the winter - at least it keeps the heating costs down!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

We have not had to put the central heating on yet it's so mild. A very windy day today, the wheelie bin has now been put down the side of the garage where hopefully it will stay upright.
