Preparing for Winter V

It's still really mild here. I'm still wearing sandals.:p0

It has turned noticeably quite cold here this morning. About 6 degrees last night which is the coldest it's been for a while.
Watched Paul Mooney who is a brilliant weather forecaster last night on our Local BBC Look North and he advised that the weekend is turning colder and that the weather direction will come in from the East with wintery showers! That means sleet and snow I guess.
Had a quick check ahead on the BBC weather site and can see nothing serious afoot at the mo!
Rummer you might get some use out of your new coat quite soonMissyrichards - put those sandals away winter is on its way

We had our new boiler fitted yesterday, a W0rcester Gr33nstar 30i. Its wonderful!
Very efficient, and almost silent! I keep opening the cupboard door to check its working :rotfl::rotfl:It only took them about 5 hours. The difference in the house already is amazing, and I actually got the best nights sleep I've had in a while last night as I wasn't woken up by the boiler rumbling into action.
Nicki, sorry to ask (long time lurker here) but you mention that the difference in the house is already amazing with your new boiler.... Can I ask why it's different? I have a really old boiler that still works fine, but obviously isn't the most efficient etc, and I'm constantly wondering if I should get a new one or run this one till it breaks. Is it just the noise that is different?PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.

Just watched the BBC lunchtime news and the weather forecast is for the temperature to drop significantly. They are also forecasting snow Saturday and into Sunday for the North and also down into the Midlands as well.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money

Better remember to put battery charger in the car for the weekend then, last time it started snowing half the night shift's car batteries where flat the next morning and no-body had jump leads.£71.93/ £180.000

The level of noise is noticeably different. But I'm noticing that the house seems to warm up faster. The previous boiler had a crack in one of the parts inside which meant that a solution (The gasman said like a porridge) had been put in which was clogging up the system too much so that being flushed through has probably helped a lot as well. We got a new boiler simply because replacing the part that was damaged would have cost £700 plus a full days labour at least. Paying out £900ish (I googled it as I live in a rental so I didn't pay) plus 2 men at 6 hours labour has got to be cheaper in the long run.
I think the biggest difference for me is that I'm not having to reset it or top it up almost daily. Yet I still have to check it every now and then out of habit as I've been checking it since 2010/11 winter when the country ground to a halt :rotfl:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -

Thanks for the info. It makes sense that the new one would heat the place quicker....It must feel so much nicer for you!
I think we are lucky in that ours is old, but heats the place pretty quick so maybe we are best to wait a while before we replace it. I just know when we do get a new one we will wish we had done it sooner lol.
Enjoy being all toasty warm.PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.
