We're getting a new boiler :j:j My landlady said because I keep the house nice she's investing in a good boiler for me so being a long term tenant is paying off. Her husband wanted to come and fit a carbon monoxide detector tonight but my dog doesn't like other people in the house especially men so I've said I'll fit it. So that's the plan for Wednesday as I want to sit and read the instructions properly (plus I have time sensitive errands and work tomorrow) and have DD around while I drill the holes. While I'm at it, I'm hoping to put up another curtain rail so I can finally get the kitchen door curtain up. Which reminds me I need to fix the one over the front door as the stuck on hook came down :(

  • I don't think this winter will be too much trouble for us as we're still in the outskirts of London in a solid brick-built block of flats with good central heating and double glazing and bus routes outside (always gritted first down here) and supplies to local shops aren't really affected but by next winter we may be 20-30mins further north in the home counties, that's when I'd be prep-ping a lot more!

The far north west has 80-90mph gales forecast overnight and the shipping forecast says hurricane force 12. My postcode has light snow showers for tomorrow. I think winter's here :D

The wind really started to whip up around 2.30pm this afternoon and it is really windy now.

I was just watching the weather forecast on the Beeb and they said that the temperatures are going to drop significantly and then we have another area of mild weather coming in again for next week!

I know this sounds a bit mercenary but I will be quite happy if we have a mild winter like we did last year (only March was very cold as a month). It keeps the heating costs down, wlaking the dog is easier and just everyday living is allot more bearable!

We had our new boiler fitted yesterday, a W0rcester Gr33nstar 30i. Its wonderful! :D Very efficient, and almost silent! I keep opening the cupboard door to check its working :rotfl::rotfl:It only took them about 5 hours. The difference in the house already is amazing, and I actually got the best nights sleep I've had in a while last night as I wasn't woken up by the boiler rumbling into action.

Funnily enough though after the rain (which DH says was 'ice rain' at one point - he works outside) yesterday the temperature really did drop, last few days been 13-16C, by the time I got home at 6pm the window thermometer said it was 6C!!

Heating went on and it's barely hit 10C so far today, for Outer London, it was a very wet and cold morning, didn't even overheat in my new winter coat whilst out shopping on the High Street *shock*

  • very very serious weather for NW uk next week. Off the scale serious. If you know anyone with the slightest potential to be flooded then warn them

I wasn`t ever going to post again about weather but this one is very serious and needs action as almost imminent

Seriously thinking about getting out at some point and having a 'last cut of the year' for the lawns! This mild weather has made them grow quite a bit! Having said that the ground is quite saturated, but it is drying out - today!

Last year the final cut of the year was the second week in December and then I was out in March this year for the first! Trouble is if I leave it then it's going to be quite yellow underneath when it gets its first cut next year!

Forecast on Countryfile last night was for the end of this week to turn much colder!

I braved the torrential rain yesterday to go and get a new long winter coat so now all I need are some long warm jumpers and I am all set. The children have everything they need as does my OH.

We have been focusing on filling the store cupboards and there are a few more things that I need to get before I will be content with what we have in but I feel that I am getting there.

Thank you for the warning Kittie, it is always best to be prepared.
