it's good good to have a commentary on what,s happening on the other side of the Atlantic because I sometimes think we sometimes get so preoccupied with what's happening here in the UK that we forget others elsewhere are suffering the same tribulations.10

The shutdown thing seems like the most bonkers idea! Surely that's just a really bad thing to write in your laws as possible?!

re duvets and extra layers- duvets (feather or synthetic) work by trapping air in the fluffed-up filling, so if you put any layer on top then you reduce the efficiency of the duvet as a warm layer- so if adding any layers, it makes you warmer if you add the layers below and put the duvet on the top2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

21 days - and you would think it would be political suicide - unfortunately people have short memories. Or just like to lose money as the stock market does strange things and our country's buying power goes haywire. But the Republicans have done it under Clinton and under Obama. It scares me.9

I use the teddy type quilt covers on the quilt, under the 'official' covers, throughout the winter. It adds two layers of fleece and doesn't need to be removed until the weather warms up.
They're less likely to move around too.
Another trick is to wear your dressing gown. I do this if I've had to get up during the night, I just keep it on, saves getting cold and I seem to sleep better!The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

@Floss @slm6002 @Elisheba
Last year I put our big fleece blanket over the top cover and the dogs thought that was a sign that I was making them comfy (the chihuahua not so bad but when you add a lurcher and a greyhound to the mix, it starts to get a but snug!)
But I actually think I might try putting a fleece blanket under his side of the bottom sheet too to kind of trap warmth in - Im at that funny peri-menopausal/diabetic stage of life so will quite have the windows open and a gale blowing through!
@cuddlymarm I actually already do that with my daughter. She likes to sleep with blankets as opposed to a duvet. (don't ask me teens are weird creatures) so I put her duvet underneath her bottom sheet, and then she has a weighted blanket, fleece blankets and a big 9ft U shaped pillow and others to make herself a pit with on her bed.
Not sure how the man boy (hes 19) will fare but Id rather not venture into his room unless absolutely necessary.
Aslo I do hope you and your husband are feeling better soon, is it just a nasty lurgy or something a bit longer termed that your poorly with? Either way I hope the weather will stay mild and no beasts from the easts coming knocking!
@weenancyinAmerica I hope it gets passed for you but well done on stocking up on things in case SHTF. I find if you can get some lentils, pearl barley etc then they are so good for turning a soup into a hearty meal plus you can add them to mince and make main meals from things like green lentils etc. I think we have all had our fair share of strange meals when we have been using up cupboard stuff and freezer contents so I wouldnt worry.Time to find me again10
