I did do that trick with the hairdryer last year and it worked well Auntycaz.

So far, we've tested that the central heating works, but not put it on. I have switched from t-shirts to long-sleeve t-shirts. Have also added a lightweight fleece blanket to the bed.
We looked out our slow cooker recipe books and we've had a couple of stews so far. The soupmaker is being used to make sure that all the veg gets used up and it makes fantastic soups. Ordered another 12 x 400g tray of organic canned tomatoes for 9.49 from Costco, for soups and stews over the winter.
Hoping that husband starts new job week after this, so he's tasked with looking through his clothes carefully and making sure that he doesn't have moth holes in shirts and jumpers, suits and trousers. I snapped up a vgc Helly Hansen Lifa thermal long sleeve top for him, from Oxfam. We have old-fashioned sticky fly traps hanging up, to catch the moths.
That it, so far.

We’re with BG for our electricity and we’ve cheaper electricity between 11 am and 3pm so I’ve the veg for tea cooking early and stewed beef with carrots in the slow cooker for tomorrow’s tea. I’ve also got the dishwasher on ( it was full but we normally use it later) and I’ve done an extra wash.It might be worth a look at the fuel suppliers website just in case you can safe a few pennies 😀

We had our second frost of the week this morning, so things here in North Yorkshire have really cooled down, had the heating in for half hour to fully test it (new (to us) house so not sure of its ways but all seems ok. Had a fire for about an hour and a half last night which really warmed the house through.9

Heating came on this morning for the first time since the spring. We are in east Kent. No frost yet.Was at DDs house yesterday - she's nearer Canterbury - and her house seemed much colder but it's an older house which may make a difference7

Definitely feels like autumn now! We stayed in Oxford for the half marathon yesterday car was iced up. When we got home to Devon last night it was cold enough for hot water bottles for the first time this year. This week will need to be radiator dust, bleed, and trialMarried 40y.o. mum of an autistic 11y.o. Carer/SAHM.

We are at a steady 9 degrees here in south wales at the minute. Im not sure what it was when I got up at 7am or when son left to walk to the train station at 6am but there was definitely a chill in the air.
I am at the minute trying to think ahead for the weekend and wondered if I could pick your brains.
We recently brought and are in the process of converting a van into a motorhome. So far we have a structure for a bench which changes into a bed and we have brought necessities for camping like a small single burner cooking stove, pans, cutlery, plates, cups, kettle, lantern and torch etc. We have a box with things like tea, coffee, sugar etc as well so warm drinks are no problem and have lined the floor with rubber matting so there is a floor in there.
Well husband works away sometimes and has started to use it to stay in overnight rather than travelling home because it can be a 3hr trip etc and to save on hotel costs etc. He has a decent sleeping bag but Im trying to think of some other things to put in there that will keep him warm when the weather drops.
- I have just repurposed an old set of curtains and attached magnets to them so they can be hung and removed inside the van to give him privacy and help create a sort of heat trap where he will be staying in the back from the cab.
- I have a hot water bottle I can give him that he can heat water for and use to put in his sleeping bag to keep him warm.
- a pillow as well.
Maybe a few meals he could add water to like pot noodle etc to give himself a quick meal.
But can anyone think of anything else I could include?
