  • What medicines please enchilada? I've huge stockpile of paracetamol and cold and flu. Not so much ibuprofen. So was going to get a few more. I wasn't going to bother with cold and flu sachets as I have tablets. Not ill often touch wood so what else. Hate it when I get caught short. Have half a tub of vicks and one of those nose ones. Anything else x
  • How about stocking up on lip salve?
Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.

My DP swears by a cold and flu relief tablet called Contac- he won't bother with anything else, however, as you have to buy it from a pharmacist it usually means going there when you're already not feeling well. You can also buy only one box in a visit, so I thought I'd make a few trips before it's needed. Also vaporub, nasal sprays and tissues with balm on them- all just makes being ill slightly less uncomfortable.

I've also read about something called fire cider, which is a drink with horseradish that you can make in advance and break out when you're ill- anyone tried it?

mollymunchkin- good idea, I'm running low on my beloved Carmex!

I think I need to sit and do my list today. I have so much I'd like to do, but finances won't let me so I think I'm going to have to make my list then write it out again sorted into priorities :(

Anyone any tips for pets over winter? We have a boarder collie now and I have no idea if he'll need anything "special" except stocking up on food.

Woke up this morning cold so it might be time to put the duvet back in the cover. I've lost my curtain lining fleeces to the dogs bed so I need to sort alternatives out. I also need to find 2 good quality hot water bottles. DD wanted one the other day and we have none, and we don't have any wheatbags either :o Like I said, I need to write a list :rotfl:

I've had my border collie for 12+ years now and the only special thing he needs when it's really cold is to sleep on my bed all night to keep me warm! :rotfl:

I'd also like to know this, especially for outdoor animals- we have a semi-feral cat living in the garden. At the moment she has an old rabbit hutch with a box and Ikea blanket, and I lined the sides with polystyrene wrapped in foil. Should I be doing anything else for her?

  • We also have a semi-feral cat living in our garden.

We bought him a little house, he has a blanket on the bottom and then he has one of those igloo type things in which he can curl up and keep the wind and rain from coming in the door way.

He is fed of course, at least twice a day and he seems happy. I think he is blind in one eye, but he is impossible to catch to take to the vet

It might be worth asking your local cat protection if you can borrow a cat trap,in the past they have lent us one so we can catch feral cats that have needed treatment, they tend to have they them neutered at the same time.

I had a lovely big outdoor ginger tom for 12 years in a wooden bix lined with polystyrene. I tried a cat bed igloo thing but found it got very damp and had to bin it. We also put a catflap int eh shed door, so he could get in there and also keep the mice down :) I miss him.
