Super problem rectifying kittie. Your determination and proactivity is infectious.
I have no choice but to make a curtain. The size of the kitchen window is quite large, but I also need one for the adjoining door too. I'm thinking duvet cover and fleece lining. I am not a procrastinator but I am faffing about with this job.
Ok, you've got me. I will put the lovely nice, easy joyful job of quilt making to one side and set about planning and sourcing the kitchen window covering. I'm grumpy now :rotfl::p;)0 -
You always make me smile in a good way fuddle
Yes duvet cover and polyester batting. Batting inside cover, few rows of tacking stitches to hold in place and curtain tape along the top. Measure from bottom to top and then cut as needed to fit. Or make a channel in the top for a rod
A cross between lovely quilt making and horrible curtain making0 -
I have been playing
I've pulled out a cream flat sheet from the airing cupboard. Just under 3meters long so perfect width way and because the kitchen window is squat I was able to double it up. Sewing machined all round and voila I have a double lined liner that can begin as a cream curtain
I will look at getting 3 meters of fabric come DH's pay day to make it look good but it's a start and the most expensive and daunting part done for free. I am happy.
Curtain tape appears to be a couple of £ and because of the length of the window - 7ft or there abouts - I think curtain track will be the cheapest and easiest option. I will have to factor in a wooden batton but that's £s too.
All in all a kick up the backside, a proactive attempt and a decent liner for a curtain that will begin it's life as the curtain alone. Very happy. Where would I be without you all eh? Probably around £50 down having bought curtains that didn't fit properly! :rotfl:0 -
I always start to feel excited when this time of year arrives. I feel like I should be getting ready to hibernate and making the nest as cosy as possible.:rotfl:0

Me too ... I have to admit I am not a Summer person and am really looking forward to Autumn now!!0 -
The best thing I ever bought was a spin dryer, everyone is now trained to spin their washing as soon as it comes out of the washing machine. The house is less damp and clothes dry a lot faster on the radiators or in the tumble dryer if needed quick.0

A couple of night a week I work till ten oclock a night and can definitely tell autumn is approaching. A definite chill in the air and totally dark when I leave work, I love it. :)x:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.000

Curtain tape has arrived. £1.87 (plus free delivery eb4y is a gem for that) for 1 inch wide and 3m long. I have sourced the curtain track and have decided to go for 4.5 meters long so it will cover the length of the door and window. I do plan to do a door curtain too. The job is off till 15th when DH will be paid.0

My boiler has been serviced.
Next job is to replace my back door. I currently have a thin wooden door, the top half of which has 12 small panes of unglazed glass. A handyman has been booked for bank holiday Monday to hang the new door I have purchased :T
I will also be having a dog door installed in the new back door, so hope that that does not counter the effects of having a new thicker door with a double glazed single window hung.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...
..one size fits all... and nobody minds if you give it back.☆.。.:*・° Housework is so much easier without the clutter ☆.。.:*・°SPC No. 5180 -
Hello everyone,
The weather has been so awful here in August (south Wales) I've read through this whole thread and made a list of everything I need to do ready for winter!
Garden- Paint shed
- Paint fence
- Build a cold frame for the plants
- Buy cover for the parasol
- Buy a cover for the washing line
- Sort out the old tarpaulin ready to cover outdoor furniture (currently tied to a fence post with lots of critters living in it!)
- Secure broken fence
Indoors- Buy and install curtain over front door
- Buy and install bathroom window blind
- Put foil behind radiator in spare room (the only room with a radiator on an outdoor wall)
- Buy damp traps (big problems previously with condensation and mould)
- Buy or make a rug for under the bed
- Put up longer bedroom curtains
- Window film on some windows
- Defrost freezer
- Buy drip strips for windows
- Sort out boiler cover and get it serviced
- Considering a curtain over the kitchen door
Other- Buy new winter boots (mine are 10 years old and looking very shabby indeed)
- Dig out old skiing thermals and buy new for nights at the rugby
- Stock up on medicines
Lots to do but this thread actually has me looking forward to the colder weather!"I don’t keep up with the Joneses, I try to drag them down to my level" - Quentin Crisp0
