Any suggestions how we can cover our front door, it exactly fits the space, there is no room to put a rail for a curtain........
We have had our coal delivered today and a load of logs coming in a couple of weeks. I need to get the chap in to fix the all night grate in place so we can keep the fire in overnight if we need to. I also need to go through the store cupboards and make sure I have enough to last us a month. We live 8 miles from the town and only have a small shop in the village with a very limited and expensive stock. If the weather is really bad we need to have enough in to feed ourselves. The supermarkets will not deliver if the road through the village is bad.0 -
Brrrr its chilly this morning.
I have started lining my curtains with some lovely, thick cuddle fleece. Hopefully they will keep the chill down from my draughty single glazed windows.
Unfortunately my portiere rail snapped off yesterday so I need to find a cheap way of replacing it. I was thinking about a piece of dowelling and some hooks. The hall is only slightly wider than the door so it may make it awkward to open but its only for the winter so I can put up with it. I loved the rail because I could keep the curtain shut all winter and still get in and out. Never mind.
Also today I need to get the car kit sorted. Make use of my time off before back to work.1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%

Morning All,
Well, my fuel delivery arrived as expected (30 sacks of it in total) and the poor delivery guy reluctantly told me that it is now company policy to NOT carry any products into or through any properties! He wasn't joking either... the system has been "improved" so that any damage to property (and potential damage claims) is avoided. He said that they can only put things on the pavement, for the customer to then place wherever it is needed
I am only 5'2" so the idea of me picking up 30 sacks, carrying them through the house, to where I store them in the back garden (mid terraced house with no rear access) must have seemed even more unlikely to him than it was to me.
Luckily for me, he was a really nice chap who said that as long as I didn't tell anybody (so it's a secret to all the preppers on here, okay?), he would carry them through and stack them for me :A:j:A MY NEW HERO
He said that he delivers to some pensioners in sheltered complexes and has to rely on the maintenance people to get things from their gates to the appropriate customers. I could tell that he too thinks that it is Elf'n'safety gone mad and he said that a lot of his colleagues have swapped companies for this very reason! They love their jobs, enjoy helping the customers and think the whole thing is ridiculous.
Anyway, I am very pleased that he was still with the company today as I now feel prepared for a cold winter, fuel wise! I just need to get on with the food preps
Take care,
Alice

A nice chap too. It's along the same lines as when I was a carer - I was expected to stand there, watching while a frail lady or gent filled their own hot water bottle. It's ludicrous. I have had many a "don't tell anyone" moment but I just can't stand by and watch someone struggle... especially as I have just used that same kettle to pour a cup of tea!
I am feeling frustrated actually. I have spent a lot of time today trying to find money off/buy 1 get 1 free on staples to stock up my cupboard for the coming seasons. Now if I wanted banana flavoured milk or hair dye I could fill my boots. Try for flour or oats then forget it.0 -
Slight change of direction for us.
We have recently found out that we will be welcoming a mini snowbrow in Spring so on top of the winter prep we now have baby prep! We are very excited as this has been a very much longed for addition to our family.0
