Silverwhistle thank you. I have a DH who could also split pallet wood so that wouldn't be a barrier. We can get hold of pallets via DH's work but sadly they're marked with MB indicating they've been treated with chemicals and a no go.

Glad you know that! I've quoted to highlight to others. Methyl Bromide is particularly nasty.

Central Heating was switched on this evening, as we have cooler days and nights forecast for the next week or two. No doubt I will be getting the other part of the duvet out soon, I sorted son's out today so he'll be pleasantly surprised when he gets home later (gone to London for the day with a mate).
One life - your life - live it!
  • Shorter days, longer nights, here we go. It feels like the call to get the winter fuel stashed. We still have the september growth flush to come and that will be it, I am aiming to keep on top of all the outside jobs, easier on nice sunny days, pot washing, tidying the garden stuff. I hate doing that stuff when it is cold and wet
  • Last night was the first night in a long time my daughter (8) has worn a full set of Jimjams! I've woken up to a very damp, dreary autumnal day - perfect for the return of the school run for me & work.

I've been without a slow cooker for a few weeks and finally replaced it over the weekend - don't think it will be too long before it's back in use.

For those people who use a hot water bottle - please check the rubber hasn't perished while its been away over the warmer months - my daughter had one "explode" over her in March of this year and we are still having hospital visits to The Chelsea & Westminster Hospital to check on the scarring...
  • I'm still only wearing a nightie and have a sheet instead of a duvet. However, I got up last night to put on bed socks as I was a bit chilly!

I woke up to pouring rain as well.

I have got my winter coats sorted. I have a charity shop black coat and a new dark blue coat.

I need to look for a trench coat for the in between weather between now and proper winter. I need some new tights too.

  • A sunny start to the day has ended blustery, cool & wet in South Yorkshire.
I'm still using the summer duvet but have stopped uncovering my feet every night like I had been doing when I was too warm. If temps are down I will be back in PJ's to sleep in too. It doesn't feel cold enough yet to get the 13.5tog winter duvet out & I may treat myself to a new one this winter.
Winter coats all sorted thanks to the sales & hat & gloves are washed.

Just had the boiler & gas fire serviced. First time for about 3 years I'll be able to use the fire on cold nights now it's had a clean out & stays alight. The lounge is the coldest room due to being at the front of house (north side), above the cellar & laminate flooring so the boost from the fire will make nice & cosy on the coldest days/evenings.

:D:D:D Tis certainly early isn't it! They say it's a combination of fresh snow in the north of Norway, plus a nice north wind to give them a wee lift down here.
  • I reckon it is almost cosy time :D I mean the cosy bedding that I reluctantly took off a few months ago. I am sure I sleep better in cosy bedding
