Preparing for Winter V

Oh wow, where's that Ming?
I've been sleeping under the duvet this week, instead of on top of it. Still not needed to put on tights or swap to trousers for work yet though!"You won't bloom until you're planted" - Graffiti spotted in Newcastle.

It's definitely gotten quite a bit cooler today. On my walk to work this morning I had a light puffy jacket on & I've just added a blanket over the summer duvet as I'm not feeling warm enough in bed.
Tomorrow evening might be a cosy night in front of the fire, & back to wearing PJ's to bed....0 -

Cooler here this morning and cloudy but due to be dry for the weekend. It's typical autumnal weather in that the mornings and evenings are cool enough to warrant long sleeves and an extra layer but mid morning to mid afternoon are still 'end of summer' warm and warrant the removal of the long sleeves and extra layer!0

Changeover day for bedding. The electric blanket will go on with a duvet on top of that to soften the feel of the mattress, then the winter duvet on top of that (and a sheet of course). I am quite sure that there will be nights yet when I am kicking off the duvet and I very very rarely use the electric blanket, but it's comforting to know it is there if required. The central heating is still not on, and the really cold part of the day is around dawn - forecast to be 5C tonight. It will be fine when we are all used to it!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Definitely feeling autumnal here now (Carmarthenshire) and have lit one of the wood burners a couple of times this week
Beautiful sunny day today though, so doing some cutting back, prepping new beds and planting in our [STRIKE] wilderness[/STRIKE] garden. Managed to pick up some bargain plants (and seeds for next year) over the past few weeks!
Had the oil tank filled and cleared part of the grounds for the chopping up of a huge fallen tree that will provide future logs. DH has been busy building arch-topped gates for our undercroft beneath the cottage to secure one of our log-storing locations and in the process has prettied the area up with gravel and plants. As an aside, we were fortunate to find four vintage 'hinge fronts' that are perfect for the gates at a local fleamarket last week
We too have finally ordered our new front windows - after much comparing of quotes from near and far we've ended up going with a local guy who can do the style we want in Accoya for a really great price. Will have to wait till November for them to be ready and DH will be fitting them himself. Feeling so relieved to have this sorted as last year we had terrible ingress of water - not to mention cold air - from the botched up things the previous owners fitted......Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

oh what a lovely day, was nice enough for sitting out but there is a feeling of fungi in the air, won`t be long before ceps will be out there, if you know where to go pick. Its that last flush of growth, pretty well perfect for planting out0

I'll be digging my thermals out at this rate blimey what a change here. I need to get cracking and sew faster trying to finish some quilts I started eons ago due to hairy animal butts rendering anything remotely fleecy unusable, plus their hairy butts are usually parked up on them! They don't tend to stick to cotton so badly.
Boiler check due on Wednesday , my finger is hovering over the thermostat tonight but resisting the urge and wrapping up in a fleecy dressing gown instead..for now0 -
My chimney will be inspected and swept if necessary next Saturday, so no autumn fires for me until then, but it's warm here in Hampshire and if I need to warm up there's always digging on my new allotment or log splitting for the stove. Which reminds me, I need to make some kindling from pallet slats.
But even here I'm now getting under the duvet instead of on top, although I still needed to stick a leg out for a bit last night.0
