Very chilly here yesterday, was cold despite having a fleece on. Got out the thermal socks my feet were like ice.

Put the electric blanket on an hour before we went to bed, so snuggly warn. I will be changing the nightdress for jimjams soon. Have not changed the duvet yet, it's warm enough with the quilt pulled up.

Time to break out the casseroles and stews, soup pot will be on the go too.

Toying with putting the heat on first thing and then in the evening........... decidedly chilly have a shower today.

Sun is out so it may warm up a bit in the sitting room.

    Hi guys
It definitely feels more autumnal here, but I still only need a cardigan and my slippers as extra warmth. I slept much better the last couple of nights as it’s cooler.
I’m not a great salad person so I’m so happy that it’s warm food time. Cottage pie for tea last night with leftovers for today’s lunch. Lovely.

Nice cooler mornings, cars and grass were white here. Hopefully get rid of the flies..
  • I was at a country show today and when we arrived relatively early in the day before 10 o clock I intended to look for a new Waxed Jacket for myself but we thought we'd have a walk round the showground first and shop later on. It got hotter, and hotter and hotter and in the end we couldn't take any more and came home.....I hadn't even thought of waxed jackets in the heat and didn't even look at them.....Oh well there's another show soon I'll look there.
  • Oh lovely...the Daily Express is predicting we will have the coldest winter in thirty years.

    https://www.express.co.uk/news/weather/1175432/uk-weather-forecast-long-range-weather-forecast-winter-forecast-snow-beast-from-east

I didn't know they could be this specific with long range forecasting

Been a weird old day here again it was freezing this morning (disclaimer I am a southern softie :) ) but by teatime it was almost back to shorts weather!
Prep wise I have completed another strip on DS3's long awaited quilt so getting there,a bit too slowly for his liking but the good thing is he doesn't feel the cold so won't be needing it unless it snows!!

I have still resisted the urge to actually don the thermals but I've got them all out and washed them to freshen them up so I'm prepared at least.
Must give all the winter coats a nice wash too plus the gloves etc I always like to give them a clean before the cold weather hits properly.
I store them in plastic crates with fabric freshner sheets but they still have an odour when got out...maybe we're just stinky!!
  • Local geese doing practise flights in well-disciplined V formations all weekend, sure sign of coming chilly weather.

There are a large number of oak galls falling off our big old oak tree, I have never seen so many. According to 'weather without technology ' this is a sign of early, hard winter. So could be perhaps the Express has at last got it right!

We're already indulging in hot puddings, apple and blackberry crumble went down a treat today.
  • Had the tree surgeon round today. The tree in question - a massive beech - must have come down several years before we bought our property in 2018 and has laid there ever since, cutting off part of the far end of our land.

It was way too big a job for DH, but the tree guy got the whole lot sliced into manageable rings for him to attack with log splitter/axe at his leisure - all in the space of 7 hours ;)

Even better, he reckons we'll have 3 years' worth of logs from that one tree alone :D

  • That sudden temperature drop, honest it is 21 inside but I feel cold. I dithered for a while and I ordered real sheepskin slippers. I`ll see how they fit and might get some sheepskin boots, made in uk of course. Best to get them early
