Preparing for Winter V

My heating doesn't know what to do with itself....!
For the last 2 weeks it's been coming on in the early morning (for about 30mins, then clicking off again) but not at all in the evenings.
Then this morning, when I was up stupidly early for work & could have done with it on, it never came on! Bedroom temp was showing 18c tho.
Got home at about 6.45pm & can tell it had been on as the house felt pretty warm & the lounge radiator was just lukewarm.
Weather says temps will be dropping soon. May even be time to get the winter duvet out (& winter coat).0 -

My word, umpteen barrow loads of logs, the log store is full, we have two very large blue barrels full, a massive pile under the side shelter of the house and an even bigger heap on the other side of the garden on some hard standing, methinks we have enough for a while! My muscles know they've done some lifting today!0

Siebrie the radiators are fine.
The lounge one was warm as the heating had been on for a while then clicked off with thermostat. It was just the last of the lingering heat in the radiator.
I've done a test run of all Rads in the house at full pelt - all ok & ready for cold weather.0 -
I've been preparing for winter this year after the beast from the east earlier in the year !
For the passage I got/did
.. brushes cover for the letter box
.. brushes draught proof for bottom of door
.. lined door curtains with fleecy blankets I had in
.. fabric draught excluder
I've put a thermometer up to see how much of a difference it makes. Got no heating in passage, stairs or landing.
We've taken our summer coats upstairs and just got winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves, umbrellas and winter footwear there.
Need to find hand warmers I bought in sale last year.
I also carpeted passage which made a difference.
I also put a winter smelling melt in burner.0 -

Same again today! It's getting chilly in our neck isn't it? Well 'cept the bizarre warm wind we came home to last night. Forecast looking very glove like from Friday. I think I' m ready. Famous last words!:rotfl:0 -
Having bought all my preparations for winter , I've got everything sorted out.
Curtains with fleece attached (had to use safety pins cause the web stuff wouldn't stick) for the dining room and my bedroom .
Thermal blackout curtains for the lounge room (they are very plasticy. I'm not sure I like them but I guess as long as they keep the room warm then that's the main thing)
Throws for each of the sofas and a hot water bottle when needed.
An electric blanket on my bed.
I also treated myself to some kn ee high black boots
Still no heating on here though...
I think the only things I need to think about now are vitamin d and a sad lamp. Any recommendations are welcome0 -
Take high dose vitD, the 800iu ones in the shops are no good. The govt recommendations to take 800iu a day were set in the 1920s to prevent rickets - and that's all it will do! I take 4000-5000 a day and have done for many years, I don't get colds or flu any more.0
