Preparing for Winter V

Time tout down warm weather food I think and start thinking rib stickers, warming curries and chillies, stews, hot pots, savoury pies and the odd roast dinner. Lots of nice thick soups too and things on toast for supper. All these will keep you warm and nourished through the colder weather.
Actually "winter" salads can be very enjoyable and cheering. I make one with shredded red cabbage, apples, celery, and carrots and some kind of salad dressing. With a jacket potato covered with grated cheese it makes a delicious and healthy meal when you don,t feel like elaborate cooking.0 -
For years, I've had winter salads consisting of a huge bowl of about 250g of broccoli and 250g of cauliflower, chopped up into bits, pinged til hot and then a homemade french dressing over it - delicious, quick, healthy and hot!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Thankfully we have solved the 10 year old struggling with paracetamol swallowing problem.
Quite unconventional but I decided to buy her a packet of midget gems. I knew they were hard little gummy things. I asked for a couple. She gave them to me. I chewed one a bit and said "I'm terribly greedy I want to quickly swallow the one I'm chewing so I can start another!" 10 year old "I know Mam, I'm doing that!" "be careful you don't choke mind! Oh, 10 year old, that means you're swallowing, without water, harder bigger things than a teeny half of chalky paracetamol" 10 year old. "oh yeah"
Fast forward to this morning 10 year old has a sore throat and has taken half a paracetamol! Chuffed with herself she tried her sister tablet vitamin instead of her gummy. She did that too! Success! Just don't tell the dentist lol0 -

Hi guys
It’s lovely here, bit chilly but windows open. There will be plenty of time when our windows are firmly shut due to the cold and wind ( we live near the sea) so I’m making the most of it.
We started on warmer foods a couple of weeks ago and I’m gradually building up the leftovers in the freezer for quick meals.
OH now has a lovely warm blankie on the back of his chair. I started crocheting it in summer but really speeded it up a couple of weeks ago and finished it last night.
We’ve not needed heat on at all yet. I’ve put the dehumidifier on a couple of times to clear the windows and keep our flat dry.
Our winter duvet is coming out today, mainly because I’ve just washed the bedding rather than the weather.
I quite like the change in seasons, we’ve now got treacle toffee and Parkin in the shop I work in. I’m trying my best to not buy any because I’m still staying away from sweets and cakes. But it shows autumn is here. I refuse to do too much Xmas prep until after bonfire night. I find I really enjoy Christmas but if I start too early it’s done too soon and takes away the excitement.
I hope everyone is keeping warm and well
Cuddles

We've got another golden day here, it was chilly first thing but then it IS October but now is mild and benign and lovely. The colours of the leaves are stunning this year aren't they?0

It is lovely Lyn.
having had to move my bed after some alcove sound proofing (they have moved out! Sods law lol) I now can lie in bed and watch the leaves of three huge beech trees change by the day. I'm excited because when those leaves fall I'll be able to see higher up the hill and watch the bad weather roll in. Silly Billy I was used to have it facing the houses opposite.

We've ordered a nice big log store which will arrive in a week or so's time and the stove is being installed on November 7th and we will source some logs between the two events. It's very chilly here today, raining hard and most autumnal but we still haven't put the heating on, I don't know if we're just being stubborn but October still seems much to early in the year to be heating the house.0

Are you feeling the temperature difference yet Lyn?0
