Knowing that bad weather was forecast I did an extra shop last week, We have enough in not to have to go out for at least 10 days. We are prepared if the electric goes out and will be warm in the sitting room and bedroom, we might have to have a quick nip between the two. It would not be the first time I have dressed and undressed under the duvet!!0

The roads were dangerous in my county last night. Despite excellent gritting abilities there has just been no way of keeping the roads clear. DH got home last night but very nearly skidded into a lamppost coming down the hill. He has been trying to get to work since 6.30 this morning and still hasn't got there. It's normally a 15 minute drive. Both girls' schools are closed.
Unfortunately I have been fighting the start of a cold for the past few days. I have been on high dose vitamin C 3x a day and zinc supplements. Last night 'it went to my chest'. I'm seasoned in chest infections and pneumonia. I was worried last night because there was an exacerbation. The buses aren't running and it's a mile and a half walk to the surgery, hilly and of course we have the snow.
Having read books of late about herbalism I had umpteen cups of thyme infused tea from 5pm. I took 2 paracetamol for the pain and slept for 6 hours. I awoke to find that I had made a little improvement. There is no way I'll get to the doctors today and I believe (heart rate and BP goes with this) that I have a virus. I know it's highly likely that I will develop a secondary bacterial infection and need antibiotics but in these adverse conditions I think I've staved off worsening symptoms.
In terms of preps for the future I would like echinacea to help with immunity boosting in times of colds. I intend to grow it on the plot too. I'm also going to replace the oxygenating plant on the kitchen window with growing thyme. I will have a healthy stock of thyme and oregano as it has similar properties, learn even more about herbalism and get a herb infuser simply to stop bits of herbs sticking to my teeth! That's a want not a need.
I'm also very aware that preps can only get us so far. I am worried that this will exacerbate quickly like it has done in the past but I know myself well and I'm not at the breathless stage so time is on my side, hopefully enough to get through the worsening weather to a time when the buses are are servicing the route again.0 -

Got you both! Thank you. You two take care too. I know you've got the stuff too. We've had a gritter overturn right on the tops. No messing with the frosty flakes.0

FUDS do you have a cafetiere for coffee? if you do make your herbal infusions in that and the loose herbs will be pushed down out of the liquid by the plunger and you'll have tea not soup!0

When I got in from work last night I had my tea, cleared up, did a couple of minor chores and then just went to bed as that's the warmest place in the house. Radio, book, two hottie botties; I know how to rock and roll.
Snow in London overnight, but not too hard getting in on the Tube. Great picture on the front cover of the Metro showing the snow cloud lowering over the city skyline yesterday afternoon. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -

Don't forget aromatherapy burner and essential oils to help your chest.
With herbal drinks - do you have a small tea strainer or could you use a big sieve and put the herbal drink in a bowl then sieve it?0
