Preparing for Winter V

Well we are supposed to be having the white stuff fall down us before breakfast.
I'm currently typing this sitting in front of the fire with the laptop on a stool by my side, after having tomato soup and a cheese sandwich to warm me up. I've been out since early afternoon so a cosy evening in front of the telly will do nicely.
I will keep checking the different weather websites throughout the evening to see which one is most accurate and then I will know which one to follow through the rest of the winter. It amazes me that there is so much disparity between the different predictions! It's currently 4 degrees outside but expected to fall below freezing in a couple of hours.:hello:  please play nicely children !0 -

Hi all,
Long time lurker on this thread but de-lurking as I need some help.
I have moved into a house with an open kitchen/conservatory - a winter preppers nightmare! Obviously the heat is escaping through the large glass conservatory roof as soon as it reaches the kitchen. I think the end result is to pay to get some folded doors fitted but I was wondering if you had any advice/tips to see us through until we got to that point. I can only think of puttinf up a curtain pole in the meantime but OH isnt keen to go drilling away if we are to put doors in soon after.
I have threatened to bubble wrap the ceiling :rotfl: Then again maybe thats a good idea :think:Simplify and then Simplify some more!0 -
Bubble wrap is good but I don't know how it would work in such circumstances. I have used it for a couple of small windows that we don't open but your area is open and much bigger. Apart from the curtain I can't think of anything else but people on here are very helpful so maybe someone has been in that situation before and will be able to offer some ideas.:hello:  please play nicely children !0

How big is the gap? I have an open plan down stairs, and when it's really cold I have a tension rod fitted between the two rooms ( gap the size of double doors ) , with lightweight plastic curtain rings and a couple of curtains. No permanent fixtures . But I don't have kids or pets to pull on this so it works for me ..today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.

Definitely need a curtain, with lightweight thermal lining if poss.
We woke up to an inch of snow and still falling. Isn't the world much prettier when it's all white0 -
so jealous Mar, we have nothing - it was forecast as well!0

We have a couple of centimetres of the white stuff here on the top of the hill but dh managed to drive to the station ok - just the top of our road isn't gritted.
I agree, Mardatha, so pretty looking across at the fells - and it's still snowing a little bit here.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”
