It's a barmy 4 degrees here in north Derbyshire. Sunny with a nice 'washing' wind.
Has any one noticed the berries on trees and bushes?
We have a Rowan tree in the garden and 90% of the berries have gone already, last year they were still on way into January.
Do the birds know something we don't?0 -
Oh dear I've just checked the BBC weather, and for our area on Tuesday evening,
we have 4 hours of sleet followed by 5 hours of heavy snow followed by 3 hours of sleet again
Now I know why the berries have gone!0 -

It's rain at the moment but as Jim Jam says the white stuff is forecasted. New head has not given out snow letters yet and some buses could well be disrupted as very rural catchment area but head is not from area and isn't aware of the differences between villages on the different bus routes. Will keep you all informed.0

I pulled up my geraniums yesterday and potted them into plant pots yesterday, Just in time by the looks of it as we are at risk of snow tomorrow, although I don't really think we will get any.
I went round the skirting boards yesterday and stuffed insulation into the little gaps. I used a palette knife and it worked a treat.
Hopefully it will do some good!:hello:  please play nicely children !0 -
Hi, I see there are a fair few of you experienced with this winter prep business. So my question is - Thermal or Blackout curtains....or are they the same thing?? I need to cover my French doors which I believe are losing a lot of heat but unsure which curtains would be the most effective or either!?
I appreciate any assistance! Thanks!0 -
Hi POPPY just had a little read up on the differences between Blackout and Thermal curtains, Blackout curtains are very densely woven fabric, sometimes a double layer and will stop some heat loss from the room but are primarily designed to keep light out. Thermal curtains are 2 or 3 layers of material and are designed specifically to keep heat in. The article I read said both would help with heat loss but that specific thermal curtains would be more effective.0

I got thermal linings and they worked very well but are very heavy. You might need to strengthen the cutain pole."This site is addictive!"
