Thanks Judi
I'll try to meal plan as much as possible, amazing money saver.
I cannot wait for my savings to reach 10kI did it last year but then bought a car outright as well as insurance and paid for my braces, didn't leave me much change. So this time round it's for the house
I could make the cake but I won't :rotfl: Mainly because I'm not the best at cakes and because I want it very special. But also because I really cannot be botheredI like baking but smaller things like cookies or brownies.
Just checked for Village hotel, nothing near. But thanks for the tip!
Second lecture todayVery interesting but a lot of work to do at home now. I'll try to do it in work's time really but we need to wrap up this year end first!
Also 3.30pm finish was a huge bonus but just as well because DS's school didn't hold an after school club today, charming. I really dislike it when they do this, especially as it wasn't snowing at all after 2pm. They've no understanding of how a single full time working parent's life works. Because my FD is already so good to me letting me leave 30min earlier than anyone else every day, take a day off to study, study at work, allow 2hr brace and any other appointments I do feel bad when I have to say, hey, I know you're already doing a lot for me, but can I also leave 3pm today cause the school has f***ed up, again...
A bit of a rant but in my opinion schools need to support single full time working parents more and not drop these bombs, they need to understand that when I say a single parent, I really mean single, ie. no ex or current partner and no family, it's all down to me and me only. So, help me out here please.
Working parents need support so they can study and work and get better and earn more and everyone will benefit :j
I'm sending this message out into the universe :T

Haha loving the rant!!! I did exactly the same today - I looked out the window and saw the snow - I was standing with the ops director and another colleague and went into full on rant about it! Saying '5 mins and I will get a call from DS school saying come pick him up! Do schools not get that other people can't just leave work blah blah' they both just looked at me mouth open! Anyway crisis averted - snow lasted all of about 10 mins and didn't stick! - but yes I get your frustration - I would have had to leave as have no one to get my kids!
It must be hard with absolutely no one to help0 -
Sorry only just seen your post re mixed bean goulash!
It's a Jack Monroe recipe - http://agirlcalledjack.com/2014/05/13/mixed-bean-goulash/
There are quite a lot of "bean/pulse" recipes on her website.

High five Judi
I just don't understand the reasoning behind it, they're inside a building with central heating, not in the cold being used as cheap labour to shuffle the snow :rotfl: Plus, there was no snow...
When I was a kid, the only time we didn't go to school was if it reached -30 outside. And yes, I do mean CelsiusAnd we walked 1mile there and back and were perfectly fine. People need to toughen up a bit, it sure does you good to be strong in this world.

Hello Diary
It's a brand new month and in Feb I've got my eye on the food budgetBecause it really is the only thing that's reducible.
I did a shop for £20 and have now got a pork leg in the slow cooker for lunches and at least 3 dinners sorted. So that's a good start.
This weekend I also did a bit of work from home which I used to do full time when the little one was a baby-5yo since I didn't want to leave him and go to work and made £160 :money: I would do it a lot more but it's not as lucrative anymore, still good for a little extra though. It's going straight to the savings, I'm very pleased.
Apart from that, it's been a nice quiet weekendPicked up loads of books from the library for DS, including Pippi Longstockings, can't wait to read it. Reading children's books with my DS is like reliving the childhood, the best feeling
Cleaned the whole apartment, did the laundry and most importantly laughed and cuddled loads
I can tell my son is an accountant's child and will do wellYesterday we were walking to the cinema and talking about buying the house when he said, later on we could buy a second bigger house and rent the first one out to make extra money  Haha, I said that's a good plan indeed...
Thank you for the recipe joedenise, looks delicious.
Peaceful Sunday everyone.

Hi Magician - sound like you have had a fun and productive weekend! Your DS sound like a right character - my DS is always plotting and scheming with some kind of get rich quick scheme! - he's going to invest half of his paper round wages - (which he hasn't got yet!) in stocks and shares - he even has an app on his phone already and constantly shoves it under my nose to show me how much he would have made!!!
Hope you enjoyed your pork - well done in getting your grocery shop to £20!!!0 -
Hello Diary
It's been a couple very busy days. College again today, loads of new and very tough material so a lot of homework.
Money side of things is going well, made another £100 last night, again straight to the savings. Spending kept to a minimum, taking lunches to work, no evening trips to Asd* yet this week :money:
Work is beyond busy, I've got auditors coming to me every 10min, if not then I'm on the phone to someone else, no time to actually do my job! But it's YE and it WILL end this weekish...
Love talking to the auditors though, they meet some interesting people and as much as they're not allowed to tell me details they can give generalised examples, it's fascinating. Also, who knew that some pension experts charge £1200ph? :rotfl: I think I know where my career is going now, I'd end up either working 5hrs per week or full on for 5 yrs and retire
Also, been thinking how much I'd love to go on a date again, I've been single for 2.5yrs but up until 6 months ago I did have someone for the fun times. It doesn't work, who knew? :rotfl: Had to end it and haven't been on a date since, too busy with studies and DS. But I do struggle with it, that's a single mom thing. Don't want to go on a date because I don't want to leave DS with someone else, even though I only ever leave once he's gone to sleep and he doesn't even know and my friend is very well trusted and a wonderful guy who's helped out loads. On the other hand, I'm a big fan of menAs picky as I am. What's a girl to do... Keep saying to myself, the time will come, need to stay patient. Channel that kind of frustration into different areas. Tough though.
Argh, going to let off the steam doing a bit of cleaning :undecided Rubbish...
The ones reading this that do have partners, please give them an extra kiss and cuddletonight and know how lucky you are.
Passionate Thursday everyone

Children do that :T I love it, it inspires me. It's lovely being around kids and that kind of enthusiasm, not that I need more of it, can hardly contain it most days just thinking of all the things we'll get up to :rotfl: Dreaming is a start, isn't itSo let's not dream big, let's dream 'impossible', because that word is not in my dictionary :T

Yes love their enthusiasm and imagination - but my son is like the Duracell bunny - completely full on! It can be exhausting. 3 out of 4 of my kids are total dreamers like me an love to plot and scheme high impractical and impossible ideas! My DD2 is not like that at all! Makes for interesting times!!!0
