Hello Diary
I know I haven't posted for a few days. I felt like there wasn't much to tell, things were moving along slowly, sticking to budgets, busy at work. I was longing for some action and change.
Well, what do you know...
Had some very interesting news today. My FD is leaving! Wow! Well, I felt something was about to change but it still was a little bit of a shock.
Now, nothing is for certain but! I've been told this is an amazing opportunity to me and I should grab it with both hands and not let go which I will! Things will become more apparent over the next couple of weeks. I'll be shadowing him all of next week.
So I wanted action? Well! This is what you call action! Single mum, work full time, exam in 3 weeks and FD leaving and I'm asked to step in :rotfl: Think I'll be pretty busy. Will come back here to update though
Been so excited couldn't eat today0 -

Thank you so much Shelbi
Woke up this morning with a clear realisation of how much my responsibilities are going to grow. I know I'm capable and it'll be OK. It'll be a big change, for me and for the whole department and business even.
Also, I'll miss him loads and loads... I've always had that safety net and now it'll be pulled. It will be me now that'll become other people's safety net, I'll just have to do my best and use my best judgement every time. There's someone in the department that's very intelligent and lovely and would help if needed, but I'll actually be the only one with a strong accounts knowledge.
This will be a learning curve for sure but they trust me and I trust myself to rise to the challenge. I've got 5 weeks to train up my assistant which hasn't been recruited yet and learn anything I don't know yet like payroll and a few other bits. It's definitely doable but I'll have to be on top form, eating well, sleeping enough and ready to seize every single day.
My mum's about to call me to have a chat so I best be off.

TheMagician - what an amazing opportunity!!!!!Well done!!!!:T I have absolutely no doubt you will be great in the role! :T
You're mum will be very proud of you I'm sure!:T
When will the FD be leaving? Will you have enough time to get your head round what you need to do in his role?
Definitely cause for celebration:beer:0 -
Thanks for support judi24
I'll have 5 weeks in which to:
learn everything about his job, I already know a fair bit. The tricky bit will probably be the payroll, it's very complicated due to our commission structure and also a particular report;
write out and agree on my full role;
write a job spec for the assistant and hire one, then train him up to do parts of my old job, basically anything to do with purchase ledger;
agree on the pay rise :rotfl: that'll be fun...;
get it all OK'ed by the CEO
As well as all of this I have an exam mid March, oh dear. Be careful what you wish for, hey?I wouldn't change it for the world though.
If you've got any advice, it'd be greatly appreciatedanyone's really
I planned to make this move in 18 months, guess it's just come early for me
My mum is very happy and proud, she said she'd normally be nervous but with it being me, she's just excitedSo am I

I'm not sure you need any advice!!! You are obviously capable or they wouldn't have offered you the opportunity! In relation to negotiating the pay do you have an idea about what the FD is on so you at least have a starting point?
You sound like you know what you need to do over the next 5 weeks - take lots of notes so you can refer back to them when he has gone. Is your FD moving far? could you still get a little support or mentoring from him once he has gone?
Once again well done - it may be a little earlier than you had planned but that's a good thing! We don't like to wait too long for things do we? and just think - pay rise means house purchase sooner!!!0
