Introduction/welcome card to neighbours?

I am buying my very first property at age 45!! I know I took my time :D

I am moving into a block of flats, a brand new development, no one ever lived in there before....

there is a total of 19 flats.

I was thinking of buying 18 cards (one for each flat in building), possibly a very small gift too (have to think of something cheap and useful) and write on the card who I was and which flat number I live at and how I wish all my new neighbours all the best in their new home and if I can ever be of any help to feel free to come and knock on my door.

I know some people will not be 'bothered' and may want to keep themselves to themselves which is fine by me, I just want them to know I am an open/approachable person and will gladly help if I can, equally will leave them alone if that's what they wish :D

I'd like to establish good neighbour relations as much as I can as I won't be moving anymore in my life if I can help it :) so gotta learn to live as happily/peacefully as possible with my neighbours.

what do you think?

any ideas for cheap but useful pressies? :)

An odd present, but definitely a useful housewarming: wheelie bin numbers (if you've all got shiny new bins!), or just for the food waste bins if you have communal main bins. Cordwainer do nice ones mail order if you can't get them locally.
  • Congratulations on your purchase!

Now I don't want to rain on your parade but I personally wouldn't buy presents for all the other flats. Not even cheap ones. To be honest I'm not sure about the cards if you are not all on the same floor. If you are all moving in as new residents then I'd just introduce myself as I came across any new neighbours.

    That's just my view though.

    thank you for your recommendation

the block has a communal 'bin store' where there is bigger bins for all to use I believe, so this is not an option (but I may be wrong....in which case I'd look into this) so thanks

    I do appreciate any input,
I understand that we may all have different 'views' on this one of course, if I cannot find a 'small/cheap' present then I won't do it as I do not want to go too 'overboard', may keep it just to the card after all.

I am extremely bad with names and will only remember someone's name after many times they see me/repeat it, so I would find such card so useful :D:D:D

I think it is unlikely to 'upset' anyone a small 'welcome' card with my name/flat n. on it, they can just bin it if they do not wish to know who I am etc right? :)

    thank you Mojisola :)
  • Presents might be overdoing it a bit but I think cards are a nice idea. Some people might think it's a bit odd but I'm sure most people will appreciate the gesture, I know I would.

Defo no presents, a card is a nice touch though.

    thank you

my idea of presents would have been very simple like a magnetic note-pad for the kitchen or just a 'note pad' to keep by phone. Maybe the pad could have the name of the block of flats with 'welcome' to on it :D

I know I always need scrap paper in the kitchen :D LOL
