Running is too far its about 7 miles from where i live and college is even further. I have cycled in the past but my bike got nicked and i cant afford another. I dont think a part time job is viable cause i already work 32 hours a week and have a full day at college on fridays. I'm usually knackered at the end of the week that's why i go back to my mums at the weekend for some rest.
You really do have your priorities mixed up.....when you have a child your needs are at the bottom of the pile....poor you knackered at the end of a Mon to Fri week.... working 32 hours a week and a day at college leaves you evenings and weekends to provide for the child you made. You overspend completely on your lunches you can get this down to a fiver a week and probably could halve your other food bill...People who struggle to provide for their children are not supposed to own expensive phone's and contracts, a simple pay as you go would suffice. The time for kicking off your shoes, relaxing and being able to have a bit of luxury comes after you have got yourself a decent job, made sure your children are fed, housed and clothed, bill's paid then it's your turn.

Why don't people read.................. He's locked in a contract for another 24 months, took the contract before the child was born and probably even conceived. Give him a break on the phone front!

At lot of the posts suggesting soup, prior nights dinner, pot noodles etc, assume you have the facilities to heat them - do you?

Is you work is one location only or various sites?

At £2 a day on lunches, that is £80 a month, even if you cut this down and bring a packed lunch 2 days a week, that's £16 saved - so you could use the £6 to purchase lunches and give £10 towards your child.

    Give the guy a break!

The child does not live with him - I'm sure the child is adequately fed, housed and clothed by it's Mother!

This young guy is doing an apprenticeship in a very useful field and is starting a career for himself, there is less money therefore than if he was working in some MW job, but much better long term prospects which is therefore better for the child in the long term.

The OP can't get out of the phone contract and selling the phone at this stage probably wasn't while, so that can't be changed.

Food is the only real place I can see to save money, but at his first away from home, he needs help on how to do that.

Presumably the morher is claiming the child related benefits. I assume that's how she's putting a roof over the baby's head and nappies on it's bum, given dad isn't contributing a bean.

Some of the replies are a bit harsh! At least he's trying, plenty of 19 year olds out there would have been long gone without a second thought!

OP I think you're going to struggle still even if you budget more. Your wages will go up soon if your company keep you on and then it'll be less tough, so I think you'll have to struggle through for now. I assume the child's mother is getting benefits so the child will be taken care of until you're in a better position. Are you still with the child's mother?
