"Now another poster wants the name of the restaurant (I can only assume for some nasty purpose)."

JReacher1 why would you assume I asked for it for a nasty purpose? If you read any of my previous posts or indeed any of my many fair and accurate Tripadvisor reviews you would see that I am a balanced and helpful person. Unlike yourself clearly.

There is no issue of naming any restaurant on these forums, in fact on several occasions it has allowed for a right to reply.

I'm chrisp100 on Tripadvisor if you would like to read some of my reviews and perhaps see how online forums can be useful.

Your reply was in fact "nasty".

Why did you want the name then? The chance of you ever visiting this restaurant must be thousands to one!

Internet trolling is a massive problem for small business's and if the name of the restaurant was published on here several posters would certainly start posting fake negative reviews. This place is filled with people who love a good Internet vigilante action....

You are now getting very defensive. I am sure everyone can see I am a reasonable person who writes good, factual and honest reviews. Online forums are very useful to people who travel as you don't know the area/town/village and so a look online can be very helpful. Your implication that all online reviews have a negative bias is simply untrue.

I might not visit the restaurant, but then who's to say? In the last three weeks I have travelled on expense to Woking, London, Glasgow, Poynton, Stockport, York, Harrogate, Bristol and Reading. Its not a massively enjoyable part of my job but I am happy to write reviews of hotels and restaurants to help others. I have an obligation to keep my costs down and be ethical in my spending so I DO want to know! So what if I will never visit? What if it was a chain and other people might want to know their policies?

I have never been dishonest, just reported on what I have found. Last night for example I had a rather tasteless meal at a supposedly good restaurant but as I have a cold I won't review as my taste buds are not working properly. If you had actually looked at my TA page you would see many positive recent reviews.

Why am I asking for the name of the restaurant? Because any online community can hopefully be intelligent enough to judge for themselves. TA, MSE etc are there for people to share opinions. I am sorry that you live in such a negative world where you think everyone is out to slander/libel each other but that is not going to stop me encouraging information sharing.

You are quite offensive in your sweeping judgements so goodnight!
  • sgun, you are spending far too much time replying to him. Ironic that he refers to "internet trolling"
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

I'm still waiting for you to produce evidence on that other thread that if you use a personal mobile phone for business calls the phone company will sue you....

Maybe you should stop the personal digs and try and dig some out ;)

I'm not criticising your reviews which although I have not read them I am sure are excellent.

My concern is if the name of the restaurant is posted on this site people who are not involved may start spamming the restaurant involved which isn't fair.

A couple of months back a poster was having a problem with a betting site and had posted a log of their chat which contained their username on it. Next thing you know some weirdo started contacting the company via live chat with these details!

The Internet is filled with people who like to cause trouble, they think they are crusaders for the consumer but they're instead internet bullies.

It is for that reason I don't think the restaurant should be named.

    An update.

I returned to work today as OH much recovered to find a voucher for the full amount I paid. The restaurant had sent it to the organiser.

    Am delighted.

It appears that my boss, who is a very gentle and caring man, but one who does have that air of authority, had mentioned to the owner that, whilst he could not fault the food or service, he did feel it was a tad mean of them not to refund, as apparently, on the night, the room was much too small for the amount of people in our party and the rest of the restaurant was packed to the gunnels. He had said that he felt other parts of our company would probably think twice about booking or paying early in case something came up which meant someone couldn't make it.

The owner was by all accounts horrified, called the manager over immediately and promised a full refund.

So happy days! When OH is recovered, we can treat ourselves.

    Thanks for all replies
