But they haven't dined at the restaurant so don't really have an experience to review...
If the restaurant had agreed to the very reasonable compromise that was requested in letting the OP collect the food that has been paid for then I may well agree with you about the review. But since they have point blank refused to do this I think it is more than fair to put this in a review. The restaurant has no right to keep all of the money and all of the ingredients given there is such a reasonable compromise available.0 -

Are you sure about this? Surely the boss/team mate is acting as the OPs agent, as they are clearly making a restaurant booking on their behalf (if this were not the case, the person booking would be eating every meal themselves). As such the contract is between OP and the restaurant.0 -

It would just be a vindictive complaint as they couldn't get their money refunded. I don't see how that helps anyone as the restaurant tells you this at time of booking.
A review that just says this is true is useless!
I just don't like the phrase "trash" a balanced fair review would be ok but "trash" is vindictive.
I realise some people are like that I just wish they weren't
They do have an experience of the restaurant, if not a dining experience.
I once booked a hotel, had email confirmation of the price, only for them to decide to change that price when they realised that they had used the wrong pricing chart that did not take account of an event in the city at that time. On principle I cancelled but I did leave a review detaling my experience even though I had not actually stayed there.
Any contact with an establishment is worthy of a review provided you qualify it.0 -

I don't think your hotel review is at all useful. You got a cheap rate by accident and when the hotel spotted it they correctly remedied it. It's no different to someone hoping to purchase a mispriced product from the internet and then this being cancelled at a later date.
I don't really see what the hotel did wrong0 -

If it's not booked in the OP's name (and the individual names of all the other attendees) then, No, it is NOT a booking between the OP and the restaurant.
More likely it is booked in the organiser's name or against the company's name. So OP has no direct contract with the restaurant - any contract is between the OP and the organiser.
(I agree that the restaurant are being @rsey about this, but I'm just clarifying the actual legal position).0 -
Writing a factual account on Tripadvisor is more than fair. I don't think it would necessarily influence individuals to either eat or not eat there but may help people booking for large groups to decide to take their business elsewhere. If I was booking for a large group I would hope for a little bit of flexibility from the manager of the restaurant. Can you not tell us which restaurant it was? You are not libelling anyone if the story is true (and I'm not suggesting it isn't!) Hope the op went well.0

I have to agree with the others - as long as the review is clear about which element that was the issue then it is helpful.0 -

Isn't this the same as if a person buys in a shop? The purchaser is the contractor. We often see on here when goods are faulty the advice is that the purchaser needs to take up the issue with the retailer?0 -

He didn't suggest writing a clear review. He suggested that the OP "trash" the place on tripadvisor etc. I believe that is unacceptable.
Now another poster wants the name of the restaurant (I can only assume for some nasty purpose).
This is the problem with online forums. Although I do believe the OP is telling the truth the whole story could be a lie and in the space of a few posts a group of anonymous posters have all decided that this restaurant is in the wrong and now appear poised to take it down with negative online reviews.
It's sickening behaviour.0
