Update
So the manager finally rang back today and said there would be no refund and we cannot have the food packed as a takeaway. Said it is in the terms and conditions on the booking form that 'all monies paid in advance are non-refundable and non-transferable'. As we didn't book ourselves we obviously didn't see it but have checked and it is there
The manager of your work or the manager of the restaurant?
Your company is at the mercy of the restaurant unless everyone else whos going decides to subsidize your situation, assuming its the restaurant that is saying no. Id be tempting to cut out the middleman and speak directly to the restaurant and see what can be negotiated, especially with the option of a doggy bag0 -

The OP has no contract with the restaurant, they are unlikely to win anything. The OP is paying their boss/ team mate who in turn is booking with the restaurant0 -

It was the manager of the restaurant who said no on all counts. Was surprised that they would refuse a take away.Sealed pot challenge member #325

Is it worth it? I'd say you've got better things to be concentrating on right now. But up to you.
Thanks very much.
No I don't think it's worth it. I'll just let it go.Sealed pot challenge member #325

I would certainly trash them on tripadvisor etc.One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

This is the problem with things like trip advisor. You can't trust reviews as people use it as a revenge tool when they don't get their own way.
Tripadvisor should review the restaurant, not be used to abuse a restaurant which is following the terms and conditions it states at the time of booking.
Vindictive people can destroy business's so I hope the OP is not like yourself!0 -

OP at least make sure your colleagues get your meal served, that way the they wont make money out of your misfortune.0 -
It's not a matter of getting your own way, this restaurant is acting unfairly to the OP and they deserve bad press.

i would agree if they were doing something underhand but they tell you no refunds at point of booking.
Putting a negative review on tripadvisor because they stick with what they tell you at booking seems a waste of time and unnecessarily vindictive.0 -
Their "terms" are unlawful. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

The best way to judge a business is how it deals with problems and complaints. In this case, it has failed and others should be aware of that. I hope the OP IS like me. As long as the review is factual of course. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0
