Maybe not earlier, but now you can post links.

Anyway, from your earlier pronouncement, I found:
Membership of the British Association of Foot Health Professionals includes indemnity insurance to practice...
    Isn't that worth having?

First you mention British Association of Foot Health Professionals. Now you say SMAE Institute.

Can you please remove the confusion.

SMAE Institute and BAFHP are one unit, SMAE provides training and BAFHP is the association governed by SMAE.

Yes, insurance is essential for any business. But, would you purchase one for £350 or another (same indemnity cover) for half the cost? Yes, the one for £350 includes membership of the association, but nobody I've spoken to ever heard of it, so what is the benefit? Just to have some letters after your name?

That is not the issue here anyway.

    I signed on 30 November 2012 (Friday)

Policy started on 1 Dec 2012 (Saturday)

Policy expired on 1 Dec 2013.

For policy not to auto-renew on 1 Dec 2013, they asked for full 12 month notice.

Deadline for that notice was 1 Dec 2012 (Saturday).

Again, I signed on 30 November 2012, so not possible to give notice prior to signing date.

Are you sure about that? If you had to give 12 months notice, then you would have had to have given notice to cancel on the day you signed up?!

So whether you gave notice on the 25th November or the 1st December, you would still be tied into contract until 2014 regardless.
  • I don't know about owning it, I think they are a brokerage within SMAE, they purchase block policies through another ins company and then re-sell it via their memberships, they say that memberships include insurance, but to be honest what does that association actually do for its members? They couldn't even answer my email request for information. IMO it's all cleverly set up to re-sell insurance premiums.

    That's not my primary concern.

You are correct! And that's my argument. Membership is for 12 months, BUT due to the time when I signed it (30th November 2012) and because they wanted full 12 months notice which had to be delivered to them by registered post by 1 December 2012 that gave me no time to actually do it and because of that it has automatically become a 24 month agreement.
