I was thinking about this the other day, and just now, and I've now concluded that all brands are expensive and worthless unless and until I am presented with convincing and irrefutable evidence to the contrary. I've even concluded they are an utter con that don't even do anything that they claim to ( about my conclusion there - my conclusion may or may not be true).
I was going to buy a carpet cleaner as part of my final Sains shop - once I get enough points to be able to splurge the lot on a shop with that - and it seems they are delayed even more now - I am now told that they will be there by 1 January yet the T&Cs said they would be 28 days after my original shop (I shopped mid-November) - why are they so late? I think they almost fraudulently got payment from me from my shop on the basis of that promise. Why just make people like me more annoyed with you? Not happy. Anyway...
I was going to include a carpet cleaner, but on a bigger shop:eek: as that product wouldn't contribute as much difference back. But, I'm already in doubt as to whether it is even worth bothering at all - as it seems they are just wasted products. Quite separately, I bought a Vanish stain remover once and found it didn't even remove any of the stains or make them vanish. I'm tending to the view that all companies and corporations are charlatans and that this is like the Coca Cola water from years ago, in other words another con to get people to pay lots of money for something that doesn't work. Did you see the one about the Coca Cola milk in America? Something that they said would be used to "rain money" for them:(:
http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/nov/25/coca-cola-fairlife-milk
That phrase - "rain money" - is an immediate indication that this is there to take money away from the public (in America this though) and therefore absolutely to be shunned. Very telling in my view is the global customer officer quoted as saying “a milk that’s premiumised and tastes better and we’ll charge twice as much for it as the milk we’re used to buying” (my emphais). Of course you will. Therefore, my retort is this is just an excuse to charge twice as much:p, and I'm not buying into it! I'm have no truck with it: I don't believe it is any better (taste is a matter of subjective opinion anyway and can't, therefore, in my view, be proven to "taste better" (or for that matter to taste any worse)) - my current milk does the job extremely well and I'm not having my preferences altered by the manipulation of a company to believe that I need something that I don't, that costs me twice as much, and I shudder at the word "premiumised".
I have no truck with "premium" products - the word to me means expensive cost for no benefit whatsoever and rant over! Or perhaps not. A "premium" product. What is the word "premium"? To me, it means additional cost. Why is the word apparently so attractive to normal consumers though and why are they taken in by it? I think, if I use the knowledge I've gained about the "rest of the world", I'd probably find that it was to do with image and emotion again. That people feel, for totally irrational and intangible reasons, that they have to own something in order to feel that they have "status" or that they "look good". I'm having none of it! I do not accept the impression and appearances can be deceptive. I see no need for it, and I'm not going to be lulled into believing something - unlike it seems the vast majority of people are - by a marketer. Image, emotion and feeling, as usual, triumphing over any substance:(.
As to the stain removers/carpet cleaners, I thought as much:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1155613/Washing-liquid-beats-costly-carpet-cleaners-researchers-claim.html
I feel I was had!:(
I notice we now have a Russell Hobbs iron recall, on 15 different models, of which they have known for over 1 year but seemly done absolutely nothing (not in public anyway) during that time:eek:. Why anyone would ever pay over £10, or even over about £8, for an iron is beyond me. Even the supposed "cheaper" of the Russell Hobbs or any other branded irons. (I note Which? magazine, here, calls this one a "cheap" steam iron: http://www.which.co.uk/home-and-garden/small-appliances/reviews/steam-irons/russell-hobbs-18651-steamglide/review/. They tested the iron, but I don't know if they did not find the design fault?)
I have a Smartprice Iron and I'm sure it does the same job just as well - or judging by it not having a design fault and being liable to burn people, perhaps even more well. I reckon we're all being conned into paying for expensive brands that don't do the job or actually do it less effectively. Wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. What's wrong with Smartprice Irons? When they are (were) RTC £4, why would you ever pay anything more for any other iron? I do not believe that the posh brands are more effective or are any better - as I've suggested, I suspect if objectively tested, rather than relying on people's emotional reaction and almost always incorrect assumptions, we'd find the posh brands actually performed much worse. I also suspect I was "had" with that £4 RTC price and someone here will see that that was over the odds and that they've had one for much cheaper RTC at some other time:rotfl:.
Perhaps I should shun the Ben and Jerry's ice cream therefore?:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
