Having looked on the Honest John's real MPG site, these appear to have the best MPG in real life of older cars.
Not sure it's my image exactly but beggars can't be choosers.
64.4 MPG apparently.
Ugly though!Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -

On a full tank of diesel i average about 63mpg in my Ibiza 1.9tdi and thats a mix of motorways and roads. 60mph on the motorway averages in the 70's so the 1.4 Ibiza / Polos should deffo see high 70's on motorway cruising and easily average 60mpg. Just avoid the ones with DPFAll your base are belong to us.0

We tried to find a good one last year and had no luck, looked like the best ones were being kept hold of.0 -
Skoda Fabia 1.9 tdi
Don't be too put off by high mileage
Honest John shows 58mpg despite 100 bhp engine. You'll get 60+ mpg if you're careful0 -
Finding an old diesel in good shape is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Try and find one without injector issues, faulty turbo, fuel pump problems, dmf needs replacing etc.0
