Aldi & the number plate machine

Our local Aldi has just installed the number plate terminal where you input your reg as you leave the store.

Now this has got me thinking, the car park is often full and you cant get a space in the daytime , what would happen if you circle the car park for 10 mins then leave, i presume parking eye would send out a PCN ?

There is a 'machine' in my local Aldi. Never inputted by registration number yet. I just walk past the people who do :rotfl: Never been sent a PCN.

  • Do you have to show your plate when entering the car park? I.e. can you just cover the front plate when you drive in.

Or - just don't have a plate at all (£100 fine - no points)

No need to do either for me.

What persuaded Aldi to impose this further burden on their customers? What is wrong with fully automated ANPR cameras?

People are going to forget, be unaware of, and input wrong numbers, none of which mean that they have trespassed or knowingly breached a ridiculous made up contract.

What advantage will Aldi, or their customers, derive from yet another daft PPC hoop.

The Manager has said some people have gone to Lidl because of the system, shop is always rammed though so i dont think they care, they have had the automated ANPR cameras for a few years but in there wisdom have added this number plate input screen.

No secret. The fact is that many Aldi stores only got planning permission if their car parks can be used by drivers using other local shops. So, in those cases any one can park there to visit non-Aldi shops and consequently would not use the terminal inside Aldi to input their car reg. Which means if one did use the Aldi store why use PE's terminal...they can't tell who is who and it matters not a jot.

Also, with my local Aldi, the car park area is divided between Aldi and for those who use a PH....so one can enter and exit the car park but PE's ANPR while 'seeing' you enter and exit have no way of knowing where you parked. And as PE does not manage the PH parking spaces.......

Surely Aldi realise they are being conned into paying for a system which has no value to them whatsoever and that PE connot manage(not that they ever do) a carpark split as this one is.
