Apparently the only thing we can do with it is to give it away to those whose need seems to be greater than ours.
You can cancel the winter fuel payment, you can even send it back:)

Most Winter Fuel Payments are paid automatically. Write to the office that pays your Winter Fuel Payment if you want to cancel it.
or To do this, you can call the helpline on 0845 915 15 15 and ask for furtue payments to end.

We were considering giving it to a charity considering the amount of agro it causes with our fuel company and our direct debits year in year out but didn't know if that was legal. Being able to stop it is a far better idea.
Great that's a fantastic start to the New Year0 -

Hey, have you noticed the new post? Apparently you can tell the DWP not to issue any further payments. That certainly helps out doesn't it?0 -
Our gas/electricity direct debit has just been reduced (by the energy provider) to £59 a month.
We also have a woodburner and use the £200 for logs for that. Warm and Toasty. Job done

But if you really want to save money on fuel the warmest place at 5.26am is wrapped up in bed:rotfl:The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
Hey, the only way that you can keep your money in your pocket for longer is if you pay on a quarterly basis settling the invoice within 14 days of issue. Most people average out their fuel bill by way of 12 equal monthly direct debit instalments.
Absolutely untrue
Just keep reading my post 'til the penny drops.
There's none so blind..............

I'm in someone else's house so using their heating:rotfl:
I'm always up at this time....if the woodburner's still in I'll keep it going, otherwise wait until the heating comes on at 7.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I was not amused by the remark on benefit culture, I am 62 years old work full time, I have never had any benefits as I have worked from being 15 and glad I am able to, my salary is a little more than minimum wage and as I live alone the bills are all mine, I am proud to say I manage my finances well.
My £200 is a great help to me......as I put on the opening post, it will take away the worry of increased fuel.0 -

Welcome to the site, you really are a newbie aren't you, I'm sure you haven't really had time to read all through the entire forum yet and I'm sure you will find, when you do, that we are anything but average. The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
