Hi all, spent £43.10 in Mr T's earlier this morning, picking up the last of my groceries for christmas. Have gone £33 over budget but not overly worried as my freezer is full so January should be less expensive.
I got a bargain in my shopping earlier as the staff had put a product in the wrong place. The brandy cream products had a multi-buy offer of 2 for £3 and the finest 2 for £4. I bought 2 ordinary products but on looking at my receipt the discount hadn't been taken off, turns out the more expensive product should have been in the 2 for £4 offer but had a 2 for £3 label, anyway got twice the most expensive product back so gained £4.80 rather than the £2.58 I was expecting and got to keep the products. Have added the extra money to my sealed pot.Grocery Challenge 2024

There's a lot to be said for plain cooking.... When I was small egg and chips was an acceptable evening meal. I remember my teenage uncle coming home to beans on toast and a blue riband biscuit....
or maybe it's just that I'm a foodie :rotfl:carbootcrazy wrote: ». I fund Christmas each year by using up everything in the freezer and store cupboard during the first 3 weeks of December so come January everything usually needs replacing and restocking. Just before Christmas I only buy food essential to cover Christmas and New Year. There's never much of anything left to start the New Year with:eek:.
Could you maybe work out what you think a good budget would be for you each month throughout the year. If you then set up an extra bulk buy budget and use this to buy your extra January stock and each month add any monies left over back into this. Then if you also add your December budget next year that you won't us you will have the monies for January again.
Just an idea and that may help you to see where things stand.
Bought some basics, fruit, veg, milk etc and as a treat a box of luxury mince pies (me) and good sausage rolls (DH) in MnS. Total spent was £38.03 so still under budget and still have the £51 on Morry card to spend after Chrissie. Hoping to get some good YS stuff for the freezer.
Hope you all enjoy the last few days run up to the 'Big Day'

Thought I'd finished my shopping for December but over the weekend we had family over and some of the stuff which was meant to be for next week has now been eaten! Also as I was making some of food I run out of things so as I need to go shopping anyway I will be topping up with those as well, things like spices, rice (definitely need to top up as we usually have a curry between Christmas and New Year!) and more eggs!
Fortunately I've still got quite a lot left in this month's budget. Usually I just put any money leftover into our general savings but have decided to use any leftover money from grocery budget to build a "bulk buy" pot for when I see good offers, particularly at the butchers.
So final shop for December will now be tomorrow (fingers crossed!).

Online shopping came to £54.07 so total so far is £264.07. £35.93 left for any top ups. The fridge and freezer are both full though, so we shouldn't need much.0

£112 Mr T stuff delivered, unloaded by DD who has also had to empty and bleach every kitchen cupboard as a little field mouse has been over wintering with us!
So my last spend of the year I hope. All unloaded and put away whilst I was in work. Lovely. Roll on 2015.0 -
Popped to Morrys this am. Just figs (1 pack left in Morrys & it had a very, very soggy fig in it! YUK!) and fresh bread for xmas day now & we're set until January. We'll be grabbing those 2 things our way home from ice skating and dinner with family tomorrow evening! Woo hoo!
So close you can touch it! Mum arrives tomorrow & that's it...magical family times until January 10th when M/FIL fly home! :xmassmile0
