Done a big shop today doubling up on a number of things. It cost £43.10
We are going to do the fresh stuff next Tuesday and then that is it hopefully except for picking up the bread on the Wednesday which is ordered and paid for.
Tonight we had curry & rice with some chicken left over from yesterday and tomorrow there is enough left for a sandwich and tomorrow will use the carcass for stock - 7 meals plus the stock from a £2 chicken. :money: Not bad at all.
    MARCH £62.38/250

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
70p spend today on spaghetti. Which is annoying as I can get it for 20p in Lidl. But what can you do.

Great to be back on this challenge, love hearing how you all are.

I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
I have just over £100 left still :)

My freezer and fridge are starting to look very bare, as we are trying to use up everything we already have instead of buying more. We are leaving to go to my mums on Sunday, so hoping not to buy anything apart from milk and the basics.

My fridge has never looked so empty, and its making me feel uncomfortable, although I am not sure why. I think it reminds me of when I was much younger and we didn't have much money. My mum regularly went hungry so that we could eat (I obviously didn't know that back then).
I feel guilty that my children don't have lots of snacks this week. The fruit bowl is empty, no biscuits or crisps either. Why do I feel so bad? Its only 1 week, and its my choice, not that I cant afford it.
Sorry for getting all 'deep and meaningful', but its interesting to see how this is making me feel.

Does anyone else have a more emotional connection to food/shopping/having full cupboards? Or am I the only weirdo?
  • Hi everyone, I hope to join this challenge in the New Year and enjoy the splurge over Christmas. I think its because I have been relatively good all year and lost just over a stone so I am looking forward to eating what a want until I go back to eating healthy after Christmas.

Anyway, I am not sure what to set my target for two people. Do you normally include alcohol in there? My grocery shop includes lots of beer for hubby and his cigarettes. I think I prefer to keep them separate and maybe it will help him see how much he spends on all that too.

Mine has his own personal budget after we cover household costs & his loan, any booze or ciggies are paid for by that. If he does ask me to pick something up he has to pay me to the penny for them :)
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

I have really big issues with buying too much food. That's one reason I'm trying to really cut back this month.

I know I've more than enough in to eat completely normally - probably for at least 3 months... but I still keep buying more every month.

It's been nearly 2 months since I did a proper grocery shop - first week of november - and other than not having any fresh in, I've not changed my normal diet yet at all.

I've still 7 litres of UHT, 2 loaves in the freezer, and around 10 kilos of frozen fruit and veg. Probably around 40 kilos of frozen meat and about 40 HM ready meals. Planning on sticking it out with £20 a month for as long as pos.

Speaking of which - £2.88 today - cottage cheese, reduced coleslaw, 2.5kg potatoes and bananas - I was craving baked potatoes.

Gives me a spend of £10.33 so far this month with 1 week till I'm heading to my dad's for christmas (24th).
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
