Put a jumper on, heat just the main room and move out before next winter and get on with your life. Job done
  • 1. Pumen go to citizens advice and put your questions to them, re: contract and heating. I really don't think your going to get anywhere, but what do I know. Not much!

    2. Make the best of the bad situation. I saw some heaters today in B&Q about 20£ and they were 2kw heaters. Surely one of them in each of the rooms would be enough. 2kwh, would cost about 30p an hour to run. They heat would be pretty instant as well. How long the heat lasts after turning of, is something else, not long as far as I can tell from your thread.

    3. You can make your curtains even better with thermal lining behind them. Cheap and effective.

    4. Good luck

the reason your landlord has said no one else has had heating problems is simply because they haven't?

As someone else said heating is dependant on the person.

My sister and I live in identical houses, built at the same time etc etc.
I can guarantee her heating will be on already, yet mine isn't.
I go in her house and almost pass out yet she sits there in her dressing gown saying how cold she is.
One year I managed to get to Christmas without putting my heating on, yes I did put a pair of socks on and a cardi, but nothing else.

So despite identical houses our heating usage varies as we are individuals who feel the cold differently. She certainly feels I much more than me.

Therefore maybe the previous tenants of your rental didn't feel the cold like I don't? and therefore didn't complain? You feel the cold more so notice it more?

My backside would have been freezing and I can take the cold.

When I said cardi and socks I did mean along with my normal clothes lol lol. When I said nothing else I meant no blanket of sleeping bag as others mentioned, but failed to make that clear in my post.

I am lucky I live in a terrace with a small garden with garages at the bottom, and with other house opposite across the courtyard. So we're quite protected.

I can't see me managing that long this yr as the socks have been on a couple of times already.

Thanks a lot to all for your advice. Really a costly lesson to learn.
  • Dont think anyone has mentioned looking at the recommendations on the EPC, as depending on the recommendations there may be imporvements that can be fitted either free or heavily subsidized through grants or cashback
