    From my perspective -

The M&S one was a pain as you needed it to just login and look.
I also frequently generated an invalid code and had to try again.
I assume FD was a clone of this and possibly HSBC.

The Clydesdale / Yorkshire is marginally bigger but only used in certain circumstances such as adding a payee.

Can you use the HSBC ones at Yorkshire and Barclays and Lloyds? And why do you need / how do you use a security gadget at Lloyds? Do you actually have M&S and YB and Lloyds accounts? Lloyds doesn't need a security device to log into their online banking, or for anything else. HSBC gadget doesn't work at Yorkshire/Clydesdale or at FD or at M&S.

I can log into YB without the security thingy but need it to set up new recipients or to make larger ((>£3,000) payments. I don't have a CB account but I reckon they would be 100% the same.

I cant't log in to my HSBC or into my M&S accounts without the security thingy. It would take a charlatan to do so. Nor can I use the HSBC thingy to log into M&S or the other way round, and I am sure nobody else can either.

we must be at crossed purposes, sorry colsten. no, i cannot use any bank's security devices to access any other banks accounts. well, at least i assume not...but i've never tried.

yes, i have YB and Lloyds accounts. along with Barclays and HSBC accounts. i don't have an M&S account.

with Lloyds i have both Personal and Business accounts. the business account has a card reader...exactly the same model as the Barclays one i have for my Personal account, as it happens.

is anyone saying that they can, or are even trying to? i'm confused... are you unhappy that banks haven't enabled customers to use a generic card reader?

I haven't so far seen anyone that says they transferred the £1,000 back to their 'real' bank and then received the £150.

I know the T&Cs only mention paying £1k in and not leaving it there, but I just feel a bit twitchy about withdrawing it till I've got the dosh, just in case

Me too :) I was unsure about this, and decided to leave it there until I get the incentive, to be on safe side!

The devices from the likes of Nationwide, NatWest/RBS, Co-op/smile are certainly the same and can be used interchangeably but the Clydesdale/Yorkshire one is different.

Lloyds confirms transactions with an automated phone call.

Why not use the account if you have £1k in there given you have a debit card – I have been using it for my shopping, paying a credit card bill, buying travel tickets and making cash withdrawals. And the balance is earning 2% instant access – which would be a market leader for a savings account.

I would expect my £150 in the next week or so – given experiences here.
