:rotfl: You're probably right buzzy. :)

Out of interest, is there any experience you would like to do? (If someone was thinking of getting you one.) :)

I can't think of one of the stereotypical ones off the top of my head that I would enjoy a lot, unless it was gig tickets or something like a cinema pass. I have received gig & West End tickets in the past and loved it but I like to organise my own 'events' if that makes sense, surprises make me nervous!

I wouldn't say no to one of those weekend B&B groupon deals though!

I gotcha :) Each to their own I guess. :)

Concert tickets or a west end show tickets do sound fab though! :p

I was given a very memorable gift experience by my ex when I visited him (he was working in California for a fair time). It was a trip in a private plane over San Francisco to join the mile high club! More funny than erotic!

    Ooooh nice. :j

    Hope you enjoyed it. :)

Edited to say: DID you join the mile high club?

Or am I being cheeky asking that?! :D

Better money than something someone doesn't want.

The way to get things you want is to buy them for yourself. Gift giving is different, it's not supposed to be shopping by proxy.

A gift is only appropriate if the recipient likes it

    Um, since when?

It's quite normal to get money, or gift vouchers. I will always get money unless I state what it is I specifically want.

Well it kinda is really though isn't it. For instance my BIL and SIL tastes are totally different to mine (well SIL really, as she'll be the one buying) and over the years they've got me a horrible handbag and a horrible top (which my Mam loves and now has), so yeah, I'd say they weren't really appropriate.

Appropriate for someone over 60, but not for me!

In answer to the OP's question, £60 is more than generous, and I think when you're unsure of what to buy someone, cash is a good alternative then they can get what they want. Not very inventive at all, but I'd rather have that then have someone waste their money on a gift not suited.

I must have been seriously misunderstanding the whole concept of gift giving my whole life then. I thought choice of present was up to the giver...

Since the word appropriate meant suitable. Something that a person doesn't like isn't appropriate or suitable.

I was responding to a post where it was stated that taking someone out was more "appropriate" than giving money. I pointed out that was not necessarily the case. Simple dictionary definition.
