Buying new or used?

I am looking at replacing my car that was written off.
Luckily for me I had gap insurance on my car so I have around £4000 to put down as a deposit.
I really like the Audi A1, But I'm deliberating between buying new or used.
Can anyone offer a little insight into audi and what would be my best option?
Thank you
I've had an A1 for just over 3 years (from new). I went onto their website to configure a new one and couldn't. Apparently they are updating the models but my local dealer didn't know when they'd be available to order.
I love mine, it's a very nice car. I've only got the 1.2 version but it's pretty nippy. £30 a year tax.0 -
Thank you everyone who gave a decent reply. I didn't realise people could conclude I was shallow for liking the look of a car. I best not tell them I like the new beetle as well had I? :rotfl:
That's not the thing I picked up from this thread: there's obviously no point getting a car you _don't_ like the look of. But the point about being seduced by a name does stand, as is the cost of extras. If they're important to you and it's a commitment you can easily make then fair enough. To those of us who aren't interested in cars it all seems very strange: as long as mine can make it across Europe on my skiing holiday I'm not too bothered about 'different coloured roof edge' or Xenon lights. I do have a set of wheels with snow tyres though.
The sales staff will say 'How much can you afford per month', but I'd rather spend some of that money on other things and avoiding debt.0 -

I'm really not seduced by names at all. I like the look of the car, hence why I'm not looking at Bmws or Mercedes, I don't like them.
If the Audi a1 was a Clio but I liked how it looked I'd be just as interested.
I have no knowledge or interest in cars, I just like what I like.
I also don't want a contrasting roof.0 -
You buy whatever car you like! I'd repeat the advice of considering going for 1/2/3 year old instead of brand new, you got £4k out of the insuranc, so don't go mad sinking far more in. One last thing, you have at least considered a VW Polo, Seat Ibiza, Skoda Fabia? Polo at least will feel 'premium' like an Audi (Hyperx won't understand) and IMO there's something a bit awkward about the way the A1 looks. Like a Q7 that shrunk in the wash or something. Maybe the two tone makes it look worse.0

I really hate the polo, I know it sounds awful but I think they're horrid. Nothing nice to look at at all.
I've looked at so many cars and nothing catches my eye. I love the beetle and a1 and that is really it. I'm too fussy maybe I should just get a push bike :rotfl::rotfl:
Agree with the roof. Hate the contrast crap. They look awful.0
