Do Banks "Blackball" Customers?

I was a maximum of £51 into overdraft, on a Sunday, but, as said previously, this was because my online Statement showed me as being in overdraft on Monday 3rd November, despite it only being Sunday 2nd December early evening!
The Statement date & date of looking and printing was Sunday 2nd November, but projecting this overdraft into Monday, and the balance on my account as of Monday 3rd December. However, had it actually been Monday I would have had a credit showing which more than covered any overdraft. At no other time during the month was I in any overdraft situation at all.0 -
Sorry, meant to add, I have, of course, printed out this particular online statement which clearly shows it was still very much Sunday 2nd November, even though there were entries for, and balance shown for the following day, Monday 3rd November.0

To answer your question, there is no industry blackballing.
There are obviously issues of data protection and possible claims for defamation for banks to consider.
If a bank doesn't wish to do business with you for whatever reason (e.g. abusive to staff ) then they can note that on their internal records but this will only be shared within the that bank (and possibly wider group if the bank is part of a wider group). It won't be shared with competitors. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Sorry if I was not 'clear'.
The reason I paid money into the current account the same day was that they were saying 'insufficient funds' so in haste I paid into the current account more than sufficient to pay this DD in the event of a banking error (this had happened on 2 occasions previously this year), and although proving unnecessary, as 4 days later my online account showed there had been (even prior to my paying in the extra amount) sufficient cleared funds in the account, I always try NOT to incur charges.
No reason exists for these charges on a previous Statement. I paid into the CC and Current Acount to make doubly sure I did NOT incur charges as I know that 'retry' exists, although not used by Lloyds on this occasion. Incidentally, the CC also charged a returned DD charge and a late payment charge, even though their statement shows I paid into the account on the date due, but not processed until the next day. Both accounts are with Lloyds.
The 'nasty' letter accused me of shouting at the teller, but (no excuse I know) I have a congenital hearing problem and this unfortunately means I do talk louder than normal, and the letter also went on to say that after I left the branch a discussion was started between bank staff and customers waiting in line and they all agreed I was 'not a very nice person'. - This, believe it or not, was in writing from the Manager to me!! It further went on to say that a gesture was made to my sister (she was in branch with me because I was unwell), to be quiet as the lady the other teller was dealing with was distressed because her husband had just died!.
Blackballing is an old fashioned method used to 'secretly' pass around information that someone is less than 'desirable'.
Thank you for your helpful support in this matter. I DO need to get to the bottom of this, but the online letter containing the charges reads:
Overdraft interest £0.12
Unplanned O/D charges £80.00
Returned DD £10.00
O/D usage Fee £6
I have a premium account at a cost of £25 per month and a planned fee free o/d of £500 paid in full each month.
The CC DD was due 16/10 and apart from the amount I paid in on 16th an online statement on 20/10 showed no outgoings just a balance including the refunded DD and the amount I had paid in to cover this, well above the amount of the returned DD
The charges detailed would indicate that at some point between 2nd October and 3rd November you were overdrawn by more than £25 over your overdraft limit for at least 8 days.
What do you mean as 4 days later? The funds need to be available the bank working day before the payment is due.
As PP's have stated no Blackballing does not exist, they can however terminate their business arrangement with youI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards. You don't have to be the best -
Just be better than you were yesterday.0 -
1) You may want to complain to a regional manager, noting that you are hard of hearing (but did you mention that to the teller at the time?)
2) Your list of events if pretty difficult to follow, so I'm not surprised if the bank found it difficult as well. (Particularly the bit about projected funds)
Banks don't tend to not pay direct debits for no reason. You say in your first post there was no reason, in a later post you say insufficient funds. How/where were you notified of insufficient funds?
In terms of the account - are you applying for a standard current account or another added benefits one? Banks may be wary of providing an 'added benefits' account to someone who is not already a customer and/or without a certain income. Do you meet the critiera required for the accounts for which you're applying?
The DD/Card company is odd - are they cancelling the direct debits or not collecting them? (And could it have any bearing on this version of events)0 -

The OP has previously reported of their communication difficulties because of a hearing problem. They have also been given some suggestions on the Lloyds facilities available for the hard of hearing but the OP doesn't seem to be using them.0 -

Sunday is not a working day for external transactions. Any potential transactions showing on a weekend or bank holiday will be marked for Monday. The transactions may not be complete either and should not be relied on as things may turn up later.
However, it is clear that the money was not in the account at least the day before the direct debit which is what you should be aiming for.had it actually been Monday I would have had a credit showing which more than covered any overdraft.
Was that credit a cheque paid in or an automated credit?
Was it paid in before 3.30pm on Monday?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Individuals still need to conduct themselves in the appropriate manner in the widest sense. In the past I've terminated business relationships when customers have been overly abusive to members of staff who are merely doing their job. Manners cost nothing.0
