The only credit reports worth getting are the £2 reports from experian, equifax and callcredit. Get them a few months before you apply for credit in case the are any problems. All other credit report sites are worthless.0

Hi
Don't know if anyone can help?
I tried to get my statutory credit report online through Equifax but at the end of the application it said I could not proceed as they needed further information and to call their number. I phoned them and was asked a few questions, trouble is I couldn't answer their questions very accurately as I have had credit cards in the past but not for afew years so couldn't remember information on when I got them, credit limit etc. Anyway in short the woman on the phone said I needed to send a photocopy of my I.D and a utility bill to them.
I don't know but sounds a bit dodgy, with that kind of information I could get easily be subject to identity fraud if it gets into the wrong hands?!
Thanks in advance2012 bring it on!;)0 -

They need to verify you are who you say you are. If you can't answer the questions they need to be certain they are providing your file to you.0

That's exactly why they don't want to send your credit file to just anyone !!0 -
I've just tried to order a copy of my credit report, but have been asked to send the proof through their website by creating a help account on equifax /ask.
Maybe this kind of work is better suited for banks to do, they have systems in place to verify you correctly. I'd pay more than £2 to avoid this hassle.
@samwsmith, how does doing this through the post avoid needing to send id documents to them?
Also, whats the process for the paper copy, seems to only request name and address details. Surely there's more they request?0 -
What data do you think the banks use to verify you? :-) When you go to a bank you have to provide id also.0

thats my point, thats why you wouldnt have do this again for a credit check.
so is the process the same for paper copy? or is it just complete the form with the name and addresses and equifax send you your credit check papercopy to your address?
really looking for the simplest route.0 -
You will still need id if they can't verify you. Banks use CRA data to verify you with your id, CRA's also need id at times. You could always try again with Experian instead, they are the biggest of the 3 CRA's anyway.0
