I don’t usually buy Take a Break but made an exception because of your article. I thought it was really good 👍 I despair of some of the comments on FB just lately, lots of negativity. As my mum used to say if you haven’t got anything positive to say don’t say it.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)7

The trouble is many people dont realise how little money benefits pay and MPs dont help when they tell people how to save money e.g a dish of porridge only cost 30p or whatever it was. Unfortunately it is not always the food that breaks the camels back but the school uniform the child grows out of within a month, the shoes that mysteriously disappear at school etc etc. I am fortunate I dont rely on benefits now as I have a retirement pension (unless you count that as benefits) but I have been there. At one time a cooker was considered a luxury, not sure if it still does.People should remember that if they lost their jobs which is likely to happen to a lot of people in the coming months they could be in the benefits system very quickly and their mortgages and credit cards will become a real millstone arond their necks. In the meantime try to ignore the ill informed.6

Ladyholly, good point, well presented!! It’s easy for people to decide that those on benefits haven’t seen their circumstances change, without thinking that those original circumstances weren’t fit for purpose anyway!!
Lost another 2.5lbs today, making 4 st 9.5lbs. Had to buy myself some new trousers today (just cheapies), as mine were falling down as I walked.

Thank you for the compliment. The trouble is it is very easy to judge without knowing all the other persons circumstances. There is a rather long poem which starts "Pray dont find fault with the man who limps or stumbles along the road" If you are interested it is worth googling.

Pray don't find fault with the man who limps
or stumbles along the road,
unless you have worn the shoes he wears
or struggled beneath his load.
There may be tacks in his shoes that hurt,
though hidden away from view,
or the burden he bears, placed on your back
might cause you to stumble too.
Don't sneer at the man who's down today
unless you have felt the blow
that caused his fall or felt the shame
that only the fallen know.
You may be strong, but still the blows
that were his if dealt to you,
in the selfsame way, at the selfsame time,
might cause you to stagger too.
Don't be too harsh with the man who sins
or pelt him with word or stone,
unless you are sure, yea, doubly sure,
that you have no sins of your own
for you know perhaps if the tempter's voice
should whisper as softly to you
as it did to him when he went astray,
it might cause you to stumble too.Poems by Rama MuthukrishnaI am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. Great poem BM,, hopefully find the mag to read this week.
i am becoming very sad about all the judgemental stories I am hearing, must admit I’ve stopped using FB as it was doing my mental well-being any good.
happy Sunday BMAs a dear MSE friend says “keep plodding” or

Great poem. Thank you ladyholly and Beanie. Spot on.
Not a great deal to report but didn’t want to not post at all, it’s already been too long.
At the risk of making this diary more about weight loss than finances, I got Slimmer of the Week and Slimmer of the Month on Friday. I’m 2lbs away from 5 stone off and I genuinely feel so much better. Much more ‘awake’! I’m glad I kept my smaller size clothes as I have a ‘new wardrobe’ without having to spend anything - yet!DS1 had to go into school today for a 1:1 meeting with a subject teacher. I drove him in and went into Mr A’s while he went in to the school. We were told it would be a 30 min appointment, but he was in and out in 5 minutes. On the plus side, he was told they were very happy with him, on the negative, I spent £35 in Mr A’s!! He has 2 more “30 minute” appointments on Wednesday. I think this time I will just wait in the car!!!DH has been pretty much ok. Very tired and napping most days, but otherwise coping quite well with lockdown.Debts @ LBM £23,729.31.
